Does everyone here run snow tyres?

Featured Replies

Hi,

the car is the wifes, and the road leading up to my house is dreadful in 1-2 inches of snow. I learned this after driving a RWD 3.0i car in last years conditions. For the 3.0i i have decided to buy a set of snow tyres. As i nearly killed myself lastyear by sliding into a two junction....

I did see the odd FWD car "fling" it up the road and make it to the top...Is buying a set of Blizzacks REALLY that important for the VRS????

On my RWD i can understand it is, but i'm assuming the torque the VRS pushes out can give it some trouble in snow..

Depends how steep your road is...

And how delicate you can be with the throttle...

Perhaps buy something a little less expensive, but still winter rubber for the vRS

You might want to consider snow socks as well.

Or SNOW CHAINS!!

What's a two junction ?

What's a two junction ?

I'm guessing it's a Tee Junction, I may be wrong though.

Answer to the main question. Nope, as long as you know how to drive in the snow you should be fine. I saw too many people last year panicking and giving full throttle up hills wheel spinning and going nowhere. Normal road tyres are fine.

Drive under your own limits, but lets be honest last winter was horrendous and I doubt we will get anywhere near that this year.

There are plenty of winter tyre threads if you search. Here is a poll about them. Winter Tyres - Will you? or Wont you?

On our other Fabia we have a pair of Vredestien Quatrac 2(all-season) tyres and a pair of Vred summer tyres. For winter we swap tyres around and put Quatracs on the front. My dad for his Subaru has 4 16" wheels with Pirelli winter tyres and 4 15" wheels (that came with the c ar) with summer tyres on.

My Toyos being soft coped quite well in the cold last winter, better than GSD3s, both were useless in snow. I remember taking 1 hour just to get out of my drive (on a slight slope). :o I am very tempted to buy a pair of Steelies and put winter tyres on them (probably Kumhos). I just wish I could get Vredestein or Nokian Winter/all-season tyres in my size.
