Favourite game of all time?

Featured Replies

Deus ex is mine was on the pc was great how it was the first game where you could change how the game ended depending on the choices you made, you could also upgrade your body using "augments" a brilliant story and amazing action so let's have it peeps what's yours?

mario karts on the SNES.....razor sharp! golden eye on the N64 and the 1st Halo game on xbox rank among my faves B)

I loved Deus Ex too, bought it when it first came out (over ten years now), it ran beautifully on my AMD Athlon 800. I remember it was during the fuel crisis and big brother 1! God that was a long time ago now.

My list..

  1. GTA 3
  2. GTA: Vice City
  3. Gran Turismo 4
  4. Mario 64

Has to be Donkey Kong Country on the SNES :D :D :D Bought for xmas a couple (cough, cough) of years ago for my daughter and it was 2-3 months later that she got round to playing it (couldn't get me and the missus off it) The graphics at the time were good but the gameplay was sooooooo addictive it was unreal, especially considering that SWMBO doesn't like games :D

Edit:

In fact the Snes is the only old console that we have never been able to part with and it gets dug out and plugged in every few months and we end up fighting the kids off when trying to have a go :D

still got my SNES.....what a great console!!!!!

Deus ex ...

+1; spent hours on this game

Real shame Deaus Ex 2 didn't cut the mustard.

For me, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 capture that sort of game play, and then add to it.

Just bought a new PC (gaming spec) and downloaded Crysis and Crysis Warhead on Steam. I thought Far Cry was great, but these two games are amazing in every respect. Never thought I would ever see graphics like this in a game. :o

I'd probably have to give it to either Halo 2 or Project Gotham Racing 2.

I lost hundreds, maybe thousands of hours to them online, and had some great experiences.

Its actually kind of a shame, that these days there are soo many good console online games, as everyone seems to have their own favourites, and it really fractures my friends list :(

Halo 2 was the worst halo 1 and reach are the best! Remember people the new deus ex is out next year and looking brilliant!

Super Mario

CnC Generals

Original Call of Duty on the PC, was part of a clan that were UK and for a short time Europe's #1 at it, played it for too many hours, knew every line inside and out and even used to have training session on it :D

DOOM (the original)

speaks for it's self

Grim Fandango on PC.

Fantastic story, great visuals and classic Lucasarts point and click humour.

If you've never played it, pick up a copy. It's by far the greatest game ever made!

BBC: Elite

Amiga: Alien Breed / Sensible Soccer

PC: Doom

Maybe it's my age, or maybe it's the type of game, but nothing on our Wii keeps me playing until the wee small hours...

Amiga was Wing Commander. I WILL finish this mission.............

PC is Half life/half life 2 great game flow, puzzles that are hard but not TOO hard, excellent game play and graphics.

Phil

'Sensible World Of Soccer' & 'Sensible Golf', many a late night and pizzas, fond memories.

'Gauntlet' from earlier years. :)

Lemmings was the first game that kept me up all night...

Then came Worms... I can still remember me and my mates playing that blasted game til the small hours and then going to work, repeat cycle... Think I may be showing my age here though...

Lol, how could I forget Worms, and the sinking feeling you got when that Banana bomb you

didn't quite throw hard enough was bouncing back towards your last worm  :S

I would agree with your choice. I don't know what age you are, but I guess we are not too far apart :D Normally I don't play games as they don't do anything for me, but the early games like Elite and Doom seemed somehow genuinely exciting and gave a glimpse to future technology. I loved Donkey Kong too (but it had to be played on a stand-up machine in a bar :D )

Jacaranda Jim for me :)

Never did have time to finish though (that Ihat I can remember).....

Lemmings was the first game that kept me up all night...

lemmings was great loved it - had a mate who was always way ahead of me- used to phone him so that he could talk me through the level as I went along. Think I probably drove the poor guy mad.

Also got a bit obsessed by Tetris - and currently waste hours on FB on Bejewelled - sad confessional over for the evening :giggle:

It depends on what generation of gaming your talking about;

Early 80's: River Raid, Blue Max, Mr Do, Star Raiders, Mutant Camels, Boulderdash, Choplifter.

Late 80's/Early 90's: Settlers, Supercars 2, Syndicate, Theme Park, Pirates Gold!, Lemmings 1 & 2, Elite 2: Frontier, Powermonger.

Mid 90's: Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Wipeout, Twisted Metal, Destruction Derby, Doom 2, Transport Tycoon, Zelda LTTP.

Late 90's: Duke3d, C&C (up to Generals), GTA, Jurassic Park Trespasser, Starcraft, Screamer Rally, Zelda OOT & MM.

Early 00's: GTA (3-SA), Half Life Series, hmm, not much else springing to mind

Late 00's: Gears of War 1&2, GTA4, Dead Rising, Left4Dead, Halo Wars, COD series, Borderlands, Zelda TP..

Recent Games; SplitSecond, Just Cause 2, Red Dead Redemption, Dead Rising 2, AvP.

Plus loads of arcade games throughout...

Probably loads more, they are just the ones off the top of my head.

Is it me or are games getting far too easy? Ive completed more games in the last 3 years than the previous 19 put together. The quickest being 5 hours!. My reactions are slower and I have less brain cells so I should be completing less games. hmmm.

Christ I mean 1 game you would play over and over again! But I know what you mean there are so many different games! I would agree with your idea of games being easier I think the save and checkpoint system has made them easier I mean halo reach on legendary was very hard but if I died checkpoint to try again wasn't far away! Had a go at playing sonic2 on the mega drive last year can't complete that still! I think it's because you only have a few lives until you have to start over again! Oh who ever mentioned CBC generals is a legend just reinstalled it on my pc the other day few mates playin LAN it's brill!

Sorry, but its hard to pick 1 game. There are many Ive played for hours, over and over, but something always takes over eventually :giggle:

There arent many games that can hold you once you have either completed them or got stuck on one bit no matter how hard you try, especially older games that weren't open ended or sandbox style.

For instance, I completed Alan Wake in around 19 hours. Excellent game, love the atmospherics, storyline, etc. But I haven't even looked at it since, I only died a couple of times and there wasnt any real challenge. The GTA series on the other hand.....

Fun times on multiplayer GTA1

Oh who ever mentioned C&C generals is a legend just reinstalled it on my pc the other day few mates playin LAN it's brill!

Ah the many hours of C&C LAN, sweet memories lol. You want to try the Shockwave mod ;)

What's the shockwave mod? I didn't like red alert 3 as much didn't like the graphics, I really liked tiberum wars not the newest one but the last one, when playin LAN with my mates we used to go against brutal Ai you could change how the ai would act, they could rush or stat back and build massive bases and it was a visually good game, the games that you could play over and over for me would be halo 3 and reach, Cnc generals, TOTAL WAR games how could I forget how good are they medieval 2 is my favourite although the new shogun total war is going to be good.
