Rear wheel bearing needs replacing ( easy? )

Featured Replies

As title says, I need my wheel bearing on one side ( rear to be changed ) Im thinking it's adviseable to get both rears done at the same time? is this needed? - my car is a VRS 07 with 58k on the clock.

apparently the bearing comes with the hub, so would this mean a press wouldn't be required to fit and replace the old bearing?

any help appreciated, on a side note was quoted £110 to do one side? the bearing + hub eurocar parts want £55.00 incl vat.

Cheers.

You only need to change the hub/bearings on the side thats fecked.......and you dont need a press either

I fitted a new hub and bearings to the N/S/R on the wifes 2006 fabia vRS a few months back and its a doddle, easily done in an hour.

All thats needed is to remove the wheel, brake caliper, caliper bracket, brake disc, hub outer dust cover and then undo the hub lock nut and slide the hub off the stub axle (be careful not to damage the ABS sensor at the back of the hub).

Apart from the hub and bearing assembly you also need a new outer dust cap and a new hub lock nut (all the parts should come in the kit ???)

The only thing I found was VAG had not put enough grease on the bearings IMO, so I applied some more LM (high melting point grease) between the inner and outer bearing races.

Bill.

is it definiatly the bearing that has gone???

i only ask as ive had a humming noise from back for a while and put ti down to wheel bearings

there was no play in the wheels and no noise when spun up

this turned out to be uneven wear on the rear tires. you could try swapping front to rears see if the noise changes to the front

cheers for the responses, the noise occurs when going around a right hand corner mainly which leads me to believe it's the bearing, I need to jack it up and see if theres much play with the wheel, I've also got another problem with the car but this will be a new topic lol.
