Skoda Octavia 1 aftermarket head unit

Featured Replies

Hi all been wanting to upgrade the stock CD player to a head unit I've had from my old car with a USB input to save messing with CD's. When I search for octavia fascia plates to surround the new CD player all I can find is double DIN which is not correct, will I need a surround or is a normal single DIN cd player a straight fit?

Can anyone also tell me if i need ISO cable converters (some cars come with ISO connectors as standard now) and a radio antenna converter as the CD player im wanting to put in my car has a female end on it, not sure what the standard one is.

Only reason I'm asking is because I just want to get it all out of the way in one order and not have to wait for things to arrive with no CD/radio else id die of boredom lol :giggle:

Any help would be great, thanks!

Normal single din one will fit straight in.

You will need to swap the permenant and switched lives over and you will need a booster for the aerial. And don't connect the blue wire or you put 12v down the K line used for diagnostics - use this wire for the aerial booster.

Try a search loads of info on doing this.

Just plugging a after market head-unit can screw your central locking :o

Everything you need to know [:D]

The CD player is skipping and not reading the discs well hence why I want to swap it, if it was working properly I'd be keeping it in the car

I've had a search but can't find anything spectacular, maybe i'm not searching properly.

Why do i need to switch the permanent and live wires? (usually the red and yellow wire) Is it to stop the CD player being on all the time? if it is I prefer to have mine that way so I can sit in my car without the engine running listening to my music.

Also about this blue wire, I have seen lot's of aftermarket aerial boosters now and they all come with a blue wire to power the aerial I am guessing I use the blue wire on the aerial booster into the blue wire (which in my case is the remote function from my CD player) so the aerial booster turns off when the ignition is switched off?

I just connected a ISO adapter on mine which you can get from halfrauds etc, works perfect  and turns off when the key is removed from the ignition barrel

Cheers mate, any chance you've still got the box with the code on it, couldn't find any VAG iso adaptors at halfrauds last time, found one online for cheap though, did you have any problems fitting the cd player?

I dont im afraid  I got the adapter years ago for my Peugeot 306 (2001 plate) and used it in my Octavia.

Yea its abit tight with all the wires, it wont go in easily your have to give it a good push obviously being careful you dont break the headunit :)

I've had that happen before ended up pulling the wires from the adaptor because they were bunching behind the centre console and snapped. did you fit an aerial adaptor?

Yea it gets frustrating after a while, I think I did but I cant really remember :S was over a year ago I fitted it.

If the permanent and switch live are the wrong way round, radio station memory will usually reset everytime the ignition is switched off. In your case maybe you want to wire both red and yellow to permanent live?

The detail regarding the blue wire is NOT to connect the blue wire terminal from the aftermarket head unit to the vehicle wire that is in that position in the ISO connector - this wires to the "K" line in the 16pin OBD diagnostic connector under the steering column. It wouldn't affect the way the stereo functions, but sending the 12V switched antenna supply to the diagnostic connector will stop access to vehicle diagnostics by any tester plugged in there, and at worst may damage the tester.

So cut and isolate the wire to the car and connect the aerial booster to the blue wire output instead.

cheers mate, thought you meant that I have already swapped the switched and constant on my cd player so keeps all of its stations.

so with the blue wire i just chop that and put some tape or whatever around it coming from car side then on the other side attatch my aerial booster?

thanks for your help that answered the exact questions

It literally takes 30secondsto swap them,

And no, im pretty sure you cant get one pre done

I fitted an older Kenwood stereo in recently, didn't need any ISO adaptor, just needed the red and yellow power wires swapping over and the power aerial connector which was a few quid
