vRS 16v?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I recently swapped my old saxo vtr for a vRS and it has raised a question.

The VTR had an 8v 1.6 engine which produced 98 bhp and the VTS had a 16v engine which produced 120bhp.

Is it possible to convert the vRS to 16v?

This is only theoretical at the mo as the 16v on the saxo made such a huge difference..

Thanks

Don't think it will be possible

The 1.9TDI engine in the vRS can be increased in power with tuning boxes or re-maps, if your looking at more power.

From 0:40-1:00 = 16v. The Fabia TWO on each piston only......... :p So! Its not the easiest thing to 'modify'.

unless you want a new engine the answers no!

nothing wrong with 8valves

the 8 valve derv unit will surpass 300bhp i believe

im at 253bhp :giggle:

Interesting idea (the 2.0 TDI PD is a 16v engine), but in my mind totally pointless.

As Big Jase points out you can get 300 bhp out of the 8v block, so why would you want to

bother trying to fit a 16v head? What would you gain?

Very little in my mind. The 8v has superb tuneability.

Thanks guys.

I wasn't planning to do it, it was just an idea I had. I agree that it has plenty enough go as it is.

For pure performance it would be worth it, the achiles heel of the 1.9 in tuning terms is the head, on diesel alone there isn't a car that runs over 300bhp, the 16v head however doesn't have the same limitations, so if pure bhp was your goal it most certainly would be worth it, but having driven a 251bhp 400ft lb fabia on the road, and having been driven round the ring in jasons at 270 ish horses i would question if the sort of power potential was needed.
