Turbo Problems.

Featured Replies

Hi all, got a 2001 1.9TDI 100 Octavia.

Sometimes lately it seems like the turbo isn't working, when overtaking the normal surge above 2000 odd rpm isn't always there. It seems to be intermittent though, only very occasionally happens on short journeys, but noticed it about half way through a trip to Heathrow the other day.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Thanks.

Forgot to say - no fault codes showing.

110 or 100?

if the 110, then it could be a faulty MAF, but that generally means the car is really sluggish to get upto speed and maxes out around 60-65.

Unlikely to be sticky vanes as that generally logs a overboost.

When was it last serviced/air filter changed?

It's a 110 sorry. Was serviced very recently and air filter was changed.

When its in this state it is very sluggish, feels like my old Labia sdi.

Should I replace the maf or maybe clean it?

Take the car for a drive with the MAF uplugged. If it runs better with the MAF unplugged then that is at least part of the problem. You can try cleaning the MAF, but not sure how good a job it will do, but no harm in trying.

Otherwise it could be the n75 valve or a vacuum issue, but I would plump for the MAF to start with.

Will give it go without it connected. Thanks alot.

As well as the other possibilities may also be the MAP sensor. Need to get Vag-Com on it really.

Might be easier to diagnose in order of cost i.e.

Unplug MAF

N75

MAP sensor

Turbo
