Annoying squeak

Featured Replies

Anyone know what this one is.

I'm getting a funny squeaking sound (like plastic on plastic) from the front passengers side.. if the missus presses down on the console (where the air bag is) it sometimes stops, but when pressure is released it continues.

I did take it too the dealers but they told me to get it booked in for an inspection.. Is this a common fault?

car is a 10 plate Octy Elegance (1.6 DPF Man) and only has 5K on it..

Any ideas before I let the dealers loose on it?

Try holding the glovebox door firmly closed, see if it makes a difference.

I had this problem and got severely irritated by it. I know its not very contructive but I thought it was coming from the glovebox, lost my temper and hit the lid firmly! Never had the noise since

Had this issue myself and found that the side panel past the glovebox was rubbing/moving.

Reseated glovebox, tighented all torx screws and re-fitted sidepanel....seems ok now.

....but talking of annoying rattles/squeaks. My Skoda dealer has had 3 attempts at my rearseat fitting.

Keeps loosening off and rattling over time.... anyone else seen this or found a foolproof cure?!?

Cheers,

Ste.

what sort of noise does your rear-seat make? I have a rattle somewhere in the back - sounds like washer(s) rattling on a bolt that isn't fully tight (if that makes sense). Doing my head in trying to track that one down! :( :(

And where exactly is it loose?

Cheers

I've just got out of my mates A3 which is a 54' with over 130K on the clock and the comparison with my 59 plate Octy that only has 14K is shocking - the Octy is full of rattles and squeaks yet the Audi was silent.

I'm losing the will to live - every time I get into my car it has a new noise. So much for the "excellent build quality" others go on about. I's got to the point where a friend I was giving a lift to the other day commented.

6 months ago, the dealer had to remove a screw from the aircon duct in the centre console and then swore blind it wasn't a Skoda screw. I took great pleasure in showing him an identical one elsewhere in the car..................

I have a similar squeak in my 2010 vRS TDI CR. It was the glovebox catches what keep it shut.

Hi Bigred - sorry, but i let the dealer sort it and didnt get any detail. For now they claim the just tightened the back seat mounts.

What got me on to it was folding the back seats flat and driving around for a day or so....... no rattle whatsoever!!!!

I then put the seats back in place correclty and all seems fine for a day or so..... but they gradually get worse over time.

Give it a go and see if it helps isolate the rattle

Cheers,

Ste.

Yep same as my Elegance - my brother-in-law's A3 is as quiet as a Rolls Royce in comparison. He reckons it's the cheap naff plastics Skoda use whereas I think it's all about quality control during manufacture. Of course there is a difference in price!

I have a rattle from the back somewhere. I thought it was the rear numberplate housing but having put trim tape on it it made no difference. It also only happens when the cabin is cold. Will have to try with the seats down and see how i get on! Apart from that no other rattles apart from my sunglasses in the crap unlined holder!

You get what you pay for I am afraid, this is why Audi's command a higher purchase price.

I've always had a squeak from my front passenger side dash area on my 08 Elegance Estate. I now think it is the white trim on the Windscreen pillar where is tucks behind the dashboard. I've wedged a bit of rubber between the trim and the top of the dashboard and the noise has gone for the last 3 weeks or so. I also agree with others that the Octavia suffers from numerous rattles and squeaks which are very annoying on a brand new car. I have had:

  • Rattles from all 4 doors, eventually cured by new door seals, although there was an unnecessary battle with the dealer and Skoda Customer care to get the work done under warranty;
  • Rattle in the roof above my left ear which took 3 visits to the dealer to get cured, and was only cured when I eventually stuck some masking tape at the point where the noise could be heard and could be reproduced by gently tapping at that spot. I was originally told the roof lining would have to come down and refitting it was bound to result in even more rattles so i was better off living with it!
  • The roof rattle returned after 6 months, but this time I simply fixed it myself as I know the dealer had done it by accessing the void via the courtesy light. It was a wire resting on the roof lining which I padded with foam.
  • Constant rattle from front passenger side dash as described above.
