knocking Noise

Featured Replies

Since getting my car the other day i've noticed a bit of a knocking noise. This is what I can tell you about it:

- Seems to becoming from the front drivers side

- Only seems to happen under about 25mph when going over rough roads

- I can only describe as knock-knock-knock as the car is going over the bumps in the road

I've done a quick serach and could be ARB bushes, wishbone bushes, droplinks or a few other things.

I jacked the car up at the weekend and had a wiggle of all these parts but nothing seemed to be loose on inspection. Now nothing sounds like it's about to fall off but its annoying non the less.

Thanks

David

Can anyone help?

have you tried tightening the droplinks as it sounds exactly like that to me, they dont always feel loose when you wiggle them but the nut may just need "nipping up" so to speak.

It can be any of those as you mentioned and i've heard this noise before but not just on this car.

You could examine your drop links first. If you dont have a ramp then turn the wheels to full lock and get down and have a look at them. Lube them up with some white grease containing ptfe.Unlikely it will help but worth a shot.

If its wishbone bushes or ARB then this will need proper attention but worth checking that the bolts are tightened up OK. Worth checking your wheels and caliper bolts also if that doesnt solve it.

On another note..go to the front wheel grab the spokes and see if there is any play in the wheel by pulling it anti clockwise, if theres a lot of play thats the bushes that are more than likely foobarred.

you tried the arb bushes, i noticed mine were knackered last night, wasn't until i took the drop links off that i noticed!!

Well I've just ordered a pair of drop links. From what I've read on the forum this is the most likely thing to be.

Thanks for your help.

tbh honest, it could be many things, although as you say it's a common thing drop links, no harm as they're quite cheap, lets hope they work
