Xenon Headlights

Featured Replies

Anyone know how much I would be looking at to have Xenon headlights fitted to my Fabia vRS?

If its too expensive is there a cheaper alternative to achieve the same sort of beam that Xenons give off?

They were a £500 factory fit option!

A replacement headlight is about £300, Then there's the sensors, Wash system, Loom & other associated odds and sods!

Properly.... £2000

illegally £70 from ebay but you'll look a wannabe and probably blind me when you purchase them + the oem xenon headlight looks far superiour

Oh.....Looks like I'll be crossing that off the list of possible mods :(

This was probably one of the best value original options, considering what you actually get with it.

I've just fitted Osram Nightbreaker Plus "up to 90%" brighter bulbs - sourced on eBay at just under £20 for the pair (they appear genuine) compared with Halfords own brand at £25 each.

I've yet to drive at pitch black with them but when fitted they didn't seem much brighter than the standard Osrams already in - here's a photo which isn't showing as much difference as reality did - the new one (it's the N/S one) does appear to be a whiter light.

DRJ - Were you along the A5 on your way down by Oswestry today? I saw a LTD edition with a plate just like yours, but I was going rather quickly and noticed last minute.

Yes...

Haha, looked nice and clean anyway

To retro fit them to factory spec, someone was quoted about £1000. When you think they were £500 when buying the car, and the parts to do it, it's not too bad. One of the mods on my "when everything else is done" list

Matt

where will retro fit them ?

Try a local indipendant?

Matt

You can get not just the same beam, but even better beam than standard with bi-xenon projector lenses that fit into your standard halogen headlight. The headlamp case has to be cut to put the projectors in, but having low and high beam in one xenon light is worth it.

This is what it looks like on a car:

http://sites.google.com/site/upalixenon/ - lower part of the page is full of modded cars.

and this is the kit:

my brothers car is number 14, and to be honest, it outperforms my stock xenons on my Fabia RS.

The mod itself is around ~€140 fitted which is a bargain, but then you have to find someone good with hands and a diamond cutter and a plastic welder.

Excellent and cheap xenons are not that hard to find, you only have to know where to look ;)

Love the English on that advert!

Is another thing along the same lines. Comes with ballasts etc too. Not sure of the exchange rate atm, so dunno how it works out cost wise.

*Edit* Just checked - it's about £250+ P&P, which isn't too bad when you factor in the cost of ballasts onto the other link.

http://www.seatcupra...t=243820&page=4 Someone fitting them to his SEAT - also a member on here I believe. Something I'm going to look into doing if I don't get xenons on my new car.

carmodshop.com is where i get all my HID kits, great quality, simple to fit and usually arrive the next day if ordered before lunch time. plus if you have a reflector or projector headlamp you can buy a kit for each, for example, if its a H7, you can get both H7P (projector kits) and H7R (reflector kits) so all this nonsense about blinding people is rubbish. and they are legal and pass MOT without a problem, ive passed two MOTs with them in place. £70 job done

If only it were that simple. I also have a hid kit, and never have issues with other drivers being blinded. I think it depends on the car, because some cars look awful. However, passing a MOT is one thing, as all they check is alignment, but to be legal, xenons need self levelling kit, washers, projector headlights. In real terms, it's only the projector headlights that make a real difference, but no the less, without this kit, it's illegal. As much as the above kit looks flash (or maybe gash IMO), it's no more legal that a £50 eBay jobbie. If you going to spend anymore, might as well do a proper retro fit tbh

i disagree about it only making a diff on projector headlamps, i had a set on my previous car and the light emitted was astonishing, no glare at all, never had anyone plash at me, they out performed the standard xenons on my dads octy vrs. and as for the legal aspect with the headlight washers etc i wasn aware of that but when would that ever be checked?

Xenon's need projector lenses, self levelling and washers...

The LAW will clamp down on it in the future....

and you may think your fake 'xenon's' are astonishing but they aren't its the wrong bulb for the headlight so how can it be amazing LOL

Read my post again. I'm saying of the bits needed to make the xenons legal, the projector headlights are the only bits that list that male a difference to the lighting.

As far as the police go, I believe they already have started blaming down in some areas, which is why I started looking at a proper upgrade.

its only because he has the projectors he gets on his high horse :wonder:

HID KIT !!! £40 ebay , NEVER EVEN BEEN STOPPED BECAUSE OF THEM IN ANY OF MY OLD CARS AND THEY HAVE PASSED THE MOT EVERY TIME <

You could have a pair of tesco torches strapped to your car as long as they point the right way it'll pass a mot. At the moment few people are inforcing the law, HOWEVER, it was the same with window tints, and look how we are with them now.

Matt

as long as they are levelled and the right bulb kit, eg reflector or projector to prevent glare theres absolutely no reason that any attention will be drawn to them, the "law" wont know any better.
