Worried.

Featured Replies

I`m new to the brand Skoda and will get my 1st (PD140 2010 model) in a couple of weeks but should I be worried?

Gone through the first 32 pages about Skoda Octavia 2 and noticed there are plenty of fault such as: turbos, PDF (do not think I got one on the PD140?), wipers, chip in paint and many other faults which makes me think if I did the right choice?

The car I will get is a 2010 Skoda Octavia 103TDI (PD140, the one without CR), manual and is a demo with 50 miles on the clock and got it for a good price since it is a run out model.

I guess the warranty will take care of the most issues & this model might not have more problems than other brands, got no clue since I`ve not been browsing other forums.

Anyway it will be my first diesel and will give it a fair go, after a longer test drive I was very impressed with it and it has got very good reviews around the world so it should be all good.

Cheers.

Almost everyone comes on here looking for answers to their faults so dont be put off with the amount of people saying they have faults as this is the reason why, theres far more people out there with hassle free motoring than people with a specific fault so dont worry and enjoy youre skoda

Skoda are a good brand and appear to be better in reliability than their more expensive stablemates Audi and VW (according to the JD Power surveys).

As suk says, the reason people come to a forum is to find solutions to problems, so any car forum will be full of people with issues.

To put this into context, in 25 years of car ownership, I've only ever had one car that never had a single issue, although most 'problems' were pretty minor, and I am fussy/inquisitive (delete as applicable) so like to ask questions.

Relax and enjoy

If you look hard you will find positive feedback but just in case...

I liked my 1st Octavia so much I just bought my 2nd and didn't even bother to look at anything else.

Wife's brother is on his 3rd Octavia. 1st 2 were company cars. After no2 he had a company Passat but went straight back to Octavia after he lost his company car and had to buy his own.

Wife's other brother joined the club last year and got his 1st Octavia

So that is 6 Octavias - 2002 1.8 Petrol (80k miles), 2005 2.0 diesel (100k miles), 2006 1.9 diesel (50k miles), 2008 1.9 diesel (40k miles?), 2009 1.9 diesel(facelift) (18k miles), and 2010 1.8 petrol (900 miles).

All bought new except the 2006 and 2008 that were bought at 1 yr old with around 15k on the clock

Other than minor niggles the only "major" faults in getting on for 300k miles have been:

2002 1.8 petrol - failed coil packs (a common fault with this model)

2006 1.9 diesel - delaminating windscreen

2009 1.9 diesel - leaking water pump

All fixed without hassle under warranty.

Stop worrying - you've made the right decision :):):)

No need to worry at all.

Between me and my close family we have loads of Skodas. Octavias, Fabias, Petrol, Diesel, vRS, Elegance, L&K and more basic, current models and previous models. They are good cars with good performance and reliability.

Like previous posters have said, people usually come on here to get help with faults so you really do only see the negative side.

So in conclusion, no need to worry at all.

Hope that helps

Forgot to say. We like them so much that my dad has just ordered his 3rd new Octavia L&K estate and one of my brothers is currently looking to get another new fabia

I'm on Octavia number 3 and my dad has an Octavia, all very good.

Skoda Octavias are popular cars for taxis here so whenever I'm in one if the driver seems friendly I usually ask him how he's getting on with the car as they're usually doing very high miles around town which is hard going on the car. One of them actually asked me if I was on the Brisky forum as he was and had been concerned by the large amount of faults posted however his car was just hitting 110,000 on its original turbo, DPF etc. with jut a suspension bush that had failed. It's been a similar story with other Octavias which is reassuring, hopefully my car will be troublefree as well.

Yeah, pretty much every single taxi I've ever seen around Bridgend is a Skoda... They even have a couple of Superb 2's :)

its a common thing to worry once you have read forums for any car but you need to ask yourself this. How many members are on here and also how many people rave about whats good about the car, they only tend to post more negitive things so that they can get advice. I am sure that the ratio of good stuff massively outweighs the bad stuff. I am new to Skoda myself and bought a VRS back in June. Ive just had my first service and i love the car. Its great and i am sure that yours will be to.

Most people would have done their research BEFORE ordering, many have said how little trouble they've had so I won't repeat that. If your that worried or doubt what you've purchased then you could cancel but might lose a deposit. Only you can make your mind up if you still want the car, the moer you look into it the more issues you'll find with the Skoda and many other brands.

Well im now on my 4th Octavia and loving it. I had a brief 2 year run with a BMW but glad to be back with Skoda.

I do a lot of miles in a short time and would recommend them to anyone.

Got a 1.8TSi and ive done 5k in less than 5 weeks.

Worry not I have ordered my third vRS in a row and have had 4 years or so of trouble free motoring ;)

Thanks for your replies!

It seems that I worried for nothing.

I tried quite a few cars lately and the Skoda felt best!.

Will just drive it and enjoy it and if something happens (could happen to any car) I just use the warranty.

Cheers.

Worry not! Cars are more reliable, ( albeit more complex) than ever and Skoda aren't rated highly in surveys for no good reason.

I've had 2 modern new Skodas - A Fabia Vrs diesel and now an Octavia 1.8TSI. I had a failed light switch and a window switch replaced under warranty on the Fabia - nothing so far on the Octavia. Brilliant cars. You would be unlucky to have a problem car.

Don't get me going on Fords! I've had 3 new ones over the years and every one had quite serious problems under warranty. But there again, I was probably just unlucky.
