We had some very scary winds up here in N East on Fri night/Sat morning (up to 90 mls an hour).

We got woke up at about 4am by a lot of chaos outside (crashes, screaching, tearing noises-mahem).

Anyway come first light ventured out into the galeforce winds to find amongst lots of damage to house/roof, my 5 mnth old Octavia Estate underneath my 80ft fence!...

Wind had been so violent it had snapped all the concrete fence posts!

Luckely the car was positioned such that the fences wooden top rail came to rest on the door frame of the car, with 2 concrete posts just missing the bodywork- PHEW!!!

A quick call to me builder mate and we dismantled the fence to find a very small dent on door frame - double PHEW!!!

It was very lucky escape for my Octy and it shows how strong the body is to hold up a very heavy 80ft fence with so little damage.

not quite as bad ,but i shat meself nonetheless:

drivning down the by pass the other night i saw leaves flying across the road as the embankment came down and the road opened,just as i got to the opening a bloody branch flew at the car,bouncing off the bonnet and hitting the windscreen,i actually ducked for a split second i thought it was coming in to see me.

luckily no damage at all,though my bum did the sixpence halfcrown for a few seconds

80 ft fence, my god you like your privacy. How thick were the concretes posts to keep that height up?

surly 8 ft fence ..... which is still BIG !

80ft in length perhaps...panels will be 8ft or 6ft....concrete posts would not be used on smaller panels and for it to bridge the octy I'd guess 8ft panels or lucky 6ft angles.

I managed to get a 6 foot length of tree stuck in the right rear suspension last week after i drive over it. Took bloody ages to get it out, needed the wheel off and various hammers and saws as it was really well wedged.

6ft high, 8ft in between concrete posts.

All this pales into insignifance compered to whats happening in some parts of the country and rest of world.
