TSi Turbos

Featured Replies

Just wondering after having looked in my 1.2 TSi`s engine if the vRS uses a larger turbo compared to the 1.2.

And more specifically, what type of turbo does the 1.2 TSi 105 have and is the valve on the side of the turbo a BOV or an acuator valve?

I myself have been looking into this.

I know that the 1.4tsi (122bhp) uses a VERY similar sized turbo, everything else is MUCH bigger including the VRS.

If you were to somehow install the VRS turbo (not really possible as the 1.2 uses a one piece turbo/manifold and wastegate) you would experience some LAG.

When i say some i mean enough to make the car less enjoyable to drive daily.

Just looking as might put a bigger one on to replace it if I don`t swap to a 1.4. Just seems such a teeny tiny turbo - its smaller than the turbo on my cousins old Mk 3 Golf TD90!

You'll proberbly be better off getting a decent remap. You cannot simply change the tubo over, there are to many other factors to consider. Your exhaust for example may not have enough oomph to drive the turbine in the bigger turbo, you'll have massive lag as a result with power not coming in until well up the rev range.

Just had my car now for 2 days and cant help but notice the lag and the fact it doesnt spool up until 2000rpm......... not really that impressed for a small turbo, especially when it runs out of puff at 5000rpm.

I hope its because skoda remapped the ECU on the 2011 models to stop the sudden snap from a standstill

mine come in at 2000rpm but then keep going and going until the redline. Sometimes seems to get stuck at high revs when you lift off though so think the turbo might be struggling to get rid of excess boost.

Its off to a rolling road where some local Skyline owners go this week to see what its making then I might be calling on the services of Celtic to map it. Just a shame there are no intake kits or exhausts for it yet. Although oddly the 1.2 TSi 105 Yeti has an induction kit available!
