VRS LE WONT START - FUEL PROBLEM?

Featured Replies

Hiya

ok i have a vrs le, the blue one. the engine code/type i believe is blt but the haynes manual does not have that in it, is it also known as another code?

driving home as i pulled out of a junction the engine gut out with a vilant bang. the engine would crank over at the side of the road but no cough or start.

towed the car home and again the car would crank cough for a second or two and then revert back to just cranking.

im not great with diesels i must admit but we check a few things. i thought the cam belt had jumped but the timing seems ok when we checked it. when taking the oil filler cap off we noticed a lot of fumes?? also when taking off the rubber hose for the turbo (intercooler to inlet manifold there is some oil residue but i think this is normal)

we plugged in the obd2 computer and no faults found!

after all that (a few hours) we dicidedto see if it would start (miracles do happen sometimes) and it crank, started this time only for a few seconds and then died and started just to crank again.

im thinking this must be a fuel problem but am unsure on how to test the pump etc.

the car has over half a tank of fuel and i have not filled it with petrol (did check that first). tried the spare key just incase it was an imobilser thing but no change.

any help on possible faults and how to check them would be great.

typical its only 3 weeks out of warranty.

Thanks for any help, Dave

Loud bang could be the turbo fans letting go, and as it can do some damage, I wouldnt try starting it!

So long as it's been dealer serviced all it's life, then Skoda should help you with any big bills - especially if a search here suggests it's something common - like turbo failure ;)

but would the turbo fans stop the engine starting completely?

how do you drain the fuel filter, i am told you sometimes need to drain the filter before the service is due in damp conditions?

Yeah, mine did, seized so no gases could escape.

Turbo 100%, the exploding compressor wheel has blocked the airway inside the turbo totally, very very common emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Easy way to test, pop the pipe off the throttle body/egr valve and start it, if it's blocked by the turbo it will now draw in air and start.

Also worth checking / changing the cam position sensor (tdc sensor?)

Mine failed with an almighty bang / shudder through the car, then into limp mode. And thereafter an engine that would not restart - it would just crank and never catch.

All this on an SE.

Might be worth a punt. Start with the cheap stuff.

Sounds like the turbo to me too. I had the same happen. As mentioned, if you have full Skoda service history they should pay for parts, you pay labour.

This was my bill ....

"Traced fault to collapsed turbo charger. Replaced turbo charger & intercooler. Cleaned air intake pipes. 100% parts goodwill contribution from Skoda (Mileage 27,815) - £207.00"

yep was the turbo, took the pipe off and hey presto it started.

spoke to my local dealer. droped the car off with them for them to look at and contact skoda uk to possibly arrange a deal.

worked it out the car is only 10 days out of warranty!!

hoping based on the 10days out of warranty and it went in with a possible turbo fault not long before warranty was up, they will come back with a very good deal!

i am looking for the skoda uk phone number for incase i need it. it might be in the manual but im away on business.

also could someone tell me the approx price of a turbo from skoda and also the cost for labour to fit it so i can see how the deal works out

would do it myself but will look abit funny as i will have to give the reg and they will know its already with them.

thanks for your help.

apart from that problem, i still like and rate the car.

"call Škoda Customer Services on 08457 745 745."

As above, labour was £207 from my dealer. Not sure of the cost of the parts though but I'm sure they mentioned something in the region of £1500 for the total cost of repair.

Sound very similar to when my turbo failed. :(
