APEX vs Eibachs

Featured Replies

which of the two are the best all round buy? eibachs are silly money really for a little difference, apex look nicer, both are good companys, apex has longer warranty....come on guys....need to know which ones to get. tom.

I've got apex on mine no problems at all

Has to be Eibachs for me. Have never been in a car with Apex springs, but the Eibachs were border line OEM comfort, probably even better than OEM, IMHO...

any chance of a pic on the apex's mate? also whats ride comfort like?

Forget the warranty. They're not worth the paper they aren't written on.

Eibach at least have some form of brand image to live up to. I have no idea who APEX are made by or where they are made or what quality standards apply.

The Eibachs are a known winner in that they drop the car a sensible amount and maintain the standard ride comfort. Ultimately if you drop the car 40mm you have to sacrifice something and it's probably going to be ride quality.

mine on apex, apex are a well known company, if u lower a car u loose ride comfort but gain looks and handling its just physics

Having owned both Eibach everytime. Apex are ok for a budget brand, better than PI for example but poor handling when pushed, found the become very crashy and the lowering came from a much shorter spring that became bound.

Felix, have you just added the apex springs for that height? or uprated the dampers etc?

I'd say the Apex are slightly stiffer and less refined compared to the Eibach Pro springs.

My only concern was with eibachs u can barely tell its been touched, the apex ones at 35mm still aren't a silly drop...any more opinions??

Opinion: If you've got an SE, why not do the job properly and put a decent set of coilovers on it or a well engineered suspension package. Just changing the springs will make it drive better to a point. But even with the eibachs, unless you also change the dampers, you're not doing the car justice. Save up and get the best deal you can on say KW variant 1s or similar.

Your quite right pal, if I didn't have to use it for work everyday I would! In an ideal world I'd have the kw's some brembos and porsche wheels but I've got to keep it practical. Tom.

There is nothing that stops me going to work in my car. Modern coilovers that have been developed for road use offer a far better ride than just fitting a set of springs. Both AP and Wetiec have progressive spring rates and are perfectly comfortable.

Listen to the Tech1e. You'll likely have a better time of it fitting decent coilovers rather than just cheap, low springs.

I completely agree, until you see my job is a driving instructor, obviuously I use my car for personal use, I just want to reduce the rediculous arch gap!

just springs

In fairness, I suppose the advantage to you of coilovers is that you can choose how low you want it. My only concern with coilovers is that they won't last. I've heard so many stories of coilover dampers giving up and ****ing oil all over the place and it's a pretty expensive issue to rectify. It seems the concensus is that Apex will maybe look better if you want a lower look but are simply not as good in terms of performance. Probably still an improvement over standard though?

Coil overs arent anymore prone to leaking than any other damper.

Ive had plenty of sets now and never had one leak, I have seen coil overs leak, but then my Koni adjustable dampers leaked after 15k

yes i agree with that one, iv had cars with just springs, springs and shocks and then coilovers on my last one, leaking etc depends solely on how its treated and also the quality of the shocker, but since ive changed jobs and the mileage i do is huge consideration, i guess being as the dampers are ok that are on the car at the moment its only done 24K!!! i was thinking springs alone.....id hate to spend 500 quid on coilovers and then them leak after 20k which btw id do easily in a year! im just really unsure which way to go! really i shud of bought something boring like a 1.2 corsa but theres no fun in that!

I appreciate they shouldn't be any more prone to leaking, my concern was more about the costs when they do, but as you point out, it shouldn't be more likely to happen than any other type of damper (design and quality dependant).

Not sure if a single coil over damper from say Weitec is anymore expensive than a reputable uprated damper, plus KWs and the like can be rebuilt.

Ah, well, I was just going on the prices for replacement damper units I'd heard bandied about before and it seemed pricey, if you reckon its no more expensive to maintain and replace coilovers then so be it.
