emoticon-0184-tmi.gif Ouch..... what a mess!!! is that oil on the road??

Seems like is going to be an expensive repair.. so sorry...

IIf you can trace the dog owner, the law says you can recover costs from them.

This happened to my dad when he was drving through wales to catch his ferry back to ireland,he found the dogs owner (with help from local people) & he paid for my dads car to be repaired(took a bit of doing though),thankfully his car was still drivable to catch the ferry, phone call at 1am from him was a bit of a worry mind! His final bill was nearly a grand(it was only a 2000 ford focus!)

Sorry to hear that. Shame about the dog too.

That looks like coolant to me too.

Just spotted that OP is Portuguese, so presumably different laws...

I remember my dad hitting a large dog that jumped through a hedge in France years back in a Cortina - massive thump, some swearing, one seriously injured dog and one Cortina with a totalled front end. It did some serious damage...

Ouch, sorry to see that alberg. Can really sympathise mate, mine has only been back on the road 3 weeks after being rear ended at 5 days old by a Nissan Navara took amonth to repair. Hope the damage is not too bad. Sorry about the poor dog too. :S

Today was looking at it and from what I could see it will need

New bumper

bumper grills

AC Radiator

Coolant radiator

one DRL/fog lamp

Under guard

tons off plastic parts

The rest will show up after bumper out.

Anyway will be around 3000 € acording to the Skoda dealer from other similar cases.

I suppose insurance will cover it, right?

I once hit a dog on Baildon moor road the owner never took it for walks he just let the dog run on the moor and worry sheep , I contacted the police to try and get compo, the owner said someone must have left the gate open ,it was closed, and then tried to accuse me off speeding! I was only doing 30 in a derestricted area so hit the dog at about 20, the dog lived and I had to mend the car myself :@

Jesus! Looks like the dog come off a bit worse! Lol!

Yeah top man, **** hilarious that some poor hound is scared, in pain and dying in ditch somewhere.

I would be surprised if that didn't kill the dog instantly. At least I hope that's the case from an animal suffering p.o.v.

Nearly wiped out a red setter in france whilst in a 15 seater minibus. Seems to be something about Europe and dogs loose around the roads and countryside?

Regardless of the length of the dogs suffering I don't find it particularly funny. Nor do I feel the need to scroll through someone else's image shack account looking to see if I can find pictures of carnage to sΠigger at. Obviously my sensibilities differ from other members, I must just be old and soft.

i agree.

as a car lover and a dog lover i dont find jokes about dead dogs particularly amusing.

Much as I am very attached to my car I am suffering from a humour failure over the dead dog jokes. I love my dogs and do everything possible to ensure that they are not at risk from road accidents, while I sympathise very much over the damage to the car try to remember that even the best behaved, best loved dog might have a mad moment and run out, just as a child might. On a practical note it is true that the dogs owner is ultimately responsible for its behaviour so it is worth finding out if identity can be established you might also find out that their pet insurance has third party cover. Why do I seem a little sensitive ? well.... my own dog was run down because he bolted to see a dog across the road and hit a small van... he went under it and miraculously got up unscathed but broke headlamp and the plastic bumper assembly.. my pet insurer paid the claim in full under the third party section. Dog lived on to a ripe old age and was loved just that bit more after his escape and was known locally as the dog who made the van come off worse.

ps. just noticed that original post from Portugal so perhaps pet insurance not same but worth keeping in mind in event of similar horror in UK

Poor animal, how fast were you going ? claim the insurance, the title says look what a dog did, dont you mean look what I did? Its a bit like calling it a bird strike on a plane, do you think the bird struck the plane or the other way round?

No the dog or myself have fault. The dogs embecil owner who left him loose or at that place to get rid of him is at fault.

Maybe he is having a laugh right now that he got rid of him finally and I GOT A WRECKED CAR THAT I LOVE AND HAS +/- 3000 € OF DAMAGE AND HAVE TO BE PAID TO GET FIXED. :@

Another thing if you have money to spare you can give me some, I´m sure other Briskodians would also like some

I have cleaned up this thread.

Please, no more sick jokes about dead dogs. This is the only warning.

Three points I'd like to make here:

1. Sorry to see the damage caused to your car, and hopefully an owner can be traced so that you are not having to repair it yourself.

2. As a dog owner and dog lover, I'm actually disgusted and deeply sickened by some of the replies. A dog, or any animal for that matter, which has been involved in this sort of incident will have suffered, and in no way should be the subject of supposed light-hearted and trivial banter, or as a sick attempt at humour.

3. I'm sure you wouldn't be posting these sorts of comments if it had been a young child that the OP had hit -- or perhaps I'm just hoping you wouldn't............

Never before have I had cause to feel so sickened by a post or posts on Briskoda.

Mike

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments mike and hope that the moderators intervene and DELETE all the sick references regarding this poor creatures sudden and probably very painful (if only for seconds) demise.

Oh it appears Gadgetman has already deleted the sick stuff. Thankyou Gadgetman.

LEAVE THE DOG ALONE

Now does anyone know how much is the VRS front bumper and the grills, fog lights and the DRL Led bar.

Maybe I will put that in.

I have the 16" rims and it´s only the 1.6 CR engine, yeah I know, maybe the VRS bumper would make the car ( break) look weird having only 16" rims, if they were 17 or 18" I´m sure would look more VRS style.

Any thoughts

Gentlemen (& ladies too.)

A big, sincere apology to anyone I offended-I do mean that.

I am by no means an animal hater or saddo. I am relatively new to forums like this & realise that my comments & attempts at humour can be interpreted differently. I had no intention of offending anyone, & I happened to come across "that" image completely by chance, as I clicked on the image of the damage to the car to see it more closely, then scrolled to the next picture & so on. I have better taste I hope than searching for images like that one.

I fully accept I overstepped the mark, went too far & upset some people, & for this I unreservedly apologise. I was actually trying to show that hopefully the poor dog's life was terminated instantly, rather than that feared by other members who posted.

I can do no more than apologise, & I'll try and engage my brain before posting in future. Oh, and no, I don't have a dog, but do have cats.

Regards,

vRS

I stand by my post, you are assuming a lot about the dog and why he was there, we will take your word that it was not your fault, I live in the country side in Spain and have had many near misses but never hit one, perhaps luck or skill, who knows. I do not need money to spare as I have car insurance as most people on this site do. Of course pet insurance has nothing to do with this. I hope that you get this sorted but this thread makes me feel uneasy as a dog owner.

I find it interesting that so many of you are so offended by this poor dogs death, do any of you eat meat?

Have you ever seen chickens bleeding to death because the neck was not cut cleanly whilst upside down on a conveyor system....

I do find it interesting that people think differently of what may have been a domesticated animal than a farm animal, they all have feelings.

Come on Briskodians

The problem her is that I have to pay for repairs for something that I could not avoid, was either that or change lane and have a head on colision with another car. You choose???

Whether an animal or something that had fell off a truck , their´s a human at fault and now I have to live with the consequences.

This post was just to show how much damage can something small do to our cars when hit head on.
