scooshing noise when ignition turns

Featured Replies

ever since i have owned the vrs about 2 weeks now lol, noticed when you turn the ignition on its got a wierd loudish scooshing noise, i assume its just the fuel priming for full ignition, but just thought i would ask incase its not normal, never head it in my old petrol car but just assumed it was normal in this one?

Yeah its normal.

yep - scared the pee out of me the first time I heard that noise.

Mine only seems to do it when I have half a tank or less left....

As mentioned above, it's the fuel pump priming and perfectly normal. :)

I have noticed if you start the car too quickly a warning beep sounds.

Having said that, now it's cold, always wait for the Glow plugs to operate. I get into the routine of getting into the car, put ignition on, then do seatbelt, adjust seat etc, then start the car.

I won't admit to what I thought the noise was when I heard it the first few weeks lol

Yeah it's normal, I was told by the dealer when I picked up my vRS a few years ago it was notmal and only happended after half a tank.

Mines does it all the time no matter how much fuel I have :-/

Davy did u get my email ?

Every PD engine car I've had has done this. Its fine

Never heard it myself in six years of ownership - must listen out for it...

Mine does it.

Mrs Grrs SDI doesn't though.

Mine does it and noticed it the day after I collected it I thought "crap broken it already!" but the car knowlegable farther in law put me straight with a look of "don't you know anything about cars?" followed by the chuckle and shake of head.

Suction Diesel Injection

No need for a lift pump, not a PD engine hence no gurgle.

Also I think the noise comes from the fuel going through the cooler, also something not required on an SDi

Don't think i've ever heard this beep before but i thought you only had to do the glow plug thing on old diesel cars?

thanks guys, sets my mind at ease

The indicator light ï¤ lights up for a cold engine when switching on the ignition

(pre-heat position) 2 ⇒ page 82. Start the engine just as soon as the indicator light

goes out.

The glow plug indicator light will come on for about 1 second if the engine is at a

normal operating temperature or if the outside temperature is above +5°C. This

means that you can start the engine right away.
