Another long trip for my Yeti... 2000 miles to Southern Germany

Featured Replies

As a number of you seemed to appreciate my little photo blog of Septembers trip through France and Spain, I thought Id post again, this time showing what we got up to when we went to stay with friends in Germany last week.

It almost sounds boring to say it but once again the car provided faultless transport and really showed its quite amazing ability in the snow. It never felt out of its depth once in the 2000 miles we covered. Loaded to the brim once again, with four people on board and lots of luggage; average trip mpg door to door was 34mpg and that included high speed runs on the autobahns that noticeably hit the overall figure.

Our friends live in Hohentengen, southern Germany, in the black forest on the border to Switzerland. A most wonderful place indeed!

Love it! And yes 10 out 10 for sharing! Great to see a Yeti at last with all black winter wheels too!!!! Again I'm very jealous!

I go to Munich every couple of years for a trade show and I don't think people realise how beautiful it is, the south especially. They either have the worlds worst tourist board or maybe the Germans just want to keep it a secret so that it does not get spoiled. Anyway, some lovely photos.

Did you find that the roads were quieter, in terms of noise, or are they similar to the UK? I have an impression that road build quality is better although that does not mean it is quieter of course. I hit a wonderfully quite piece of tarmac last week, it only lasted about 1 mile, but my Yeti glided over it like a Rolls Royce. If only all UK roads were like that little stretch.

Do you have pics of the Yeti in the snow?

And what parts did you buy that you can't get over here?

Agreed! It certainly wasnt what I was expecting. A truly beautiful place imo. We certainly found the roads better there - smoother, almost like they were constructed of 'finer' tarmac if that makes sense! Onlt thing is I also thought that the water sat on top of the surface more. When we arrived late at night, the road surface ahead looked like the surface of a pond, very reflective.

Looking through the photos I dont have many of the Yeti in snow as I was driving. When we parked I took the photo above in the car park but that was pretty much it tbh. I did ask SWMBO to get some video footage of me driving in some deeper snow but in all fairness she was too busy defrosting from the day in the snow so wasnt keen on getting back out as she had changed into dry clothes and was making full use of the heated seats!

Parts I was after were the metal pedals and oe Yeti silver brushed stainless/black plastic door sills. :)

Ah ok. No pics then. Well then can you take some over here of the car with the all black wheels?

Are you going to get some little black VW T5 centre caps?

My first trip to Germany in my own car was in 2004 taking my A2 to the A2 factory in Neckarsulm. The German A2 club joined us there. Roads were lovely but we just had days and days of rain. Endless rain. So only saw rain spray coming up from the thousands of trucks trundeling through Germany to the coast to avoid the French Peages. How the French must be laughing. They keep their pristine roads in one piece and the German roads get driven to bits! So I can't say the German roads were any better than the French.

Brilliant pics. I think the Black Forest is superb, went there in the spring and loved it. Makes me want to go back again!

I just did a quick touch up to show it with the little hubcaps since mine is exactly your colour and I'm also getting a winter set:

Or if I can get the badges to fit imagine the above with Skoda badges in the middle.

Great post FocusZetec.

I'm definitely putting the skoda centre caps on mine, as it will add a little colour.

I'm thinking mine will stay looking like it does now - purely functional. :-)

Nowt wrong with that.

If I can't get the Skoda badges to stick, then I will as well.

I only got my badges two days ago. Long story. But yes they won't stick with their own glue. And they are much softer than I thought. So plan is to fill cap with resin to make it level and then stick badges once this is dry.

Nice writeup and photos. There's something wonderful about snowy mountains :)
