Manufacturer's warranty

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of purchasing a used skoda, which will be out of warranty. I've read a few forum topics about Warranty Direct, which seems to be a bit of a mixed bag. Can I purchase a manufacturer's extended warranty even if the car has been out of warranty for some time?

Cheers

Dave

I'm with them , more comprehensive than original, even wear and tear, just tyres and brake linings not

As above, Warranty Direct offer a very good service, although one thing to note is that the contributions you make to a claim are linked to the car's mileage and are on a sliding scale. They also will only pay for a courtesy/hire car for you for the time the car is being repaired and not for the time it's sat at the dealer awaiting parts. However, I made a claim with them and I was reimbursed within a few days so I was quite happy.

For manufacturer's extended warranties, you'll probably need to talk to your local dealer about what can be offered and presumably the car will come with some warranty when you buy it anyway as part of the sale?

Have you had to claim anything though?

I've read some really horrid stories about them getting out of paying for work, e.g. parts need to completely fail. I'm also concerned about having to pay to get the car inspected before they will proceed with a claim.

Yep I made a significant claim and they paid up as they said they would. Paying for the diagnosis is a concern, but I've seen this clause in extended warranties too so if it's something you want to avoid, make sure you check the T&C's carefully. I suspect that the garage can give you a good indication of what the problem is before they start the work.

So do WarrantyDirect base whether they will accept the claim from the diagnostic from the technicians within the garage, or do they have their own assessors?

In my case (Ford Main Dealer) the report was submitted and then WarrantyDirect authorised it over the phone. There was no action on my part and the dealer handled all contact with WD. I believe they reserve the right to send in one of their own assessors, but I suspect this is weighed up based on the cost and validity of the claim and it's not something they do as routine.

Some of the items being disallowed are worth looking out for .I once had a Ford with a leaking heater matrix. Various garages said that it would have to be stripped down at my cost .Went to a main Ford dealer " it's the matrix sir, leave it with us" . Next service ,got some bad news - warranty wouldn't cover anti freeze . So I had to pay .The next time I had problems -before getting authorisation ,they checked the T & C and "made adjustments " accordingly .

Is this the same company as Warranty Wise, the one Quentin Wilson has alledgedly designed?

The blumph and blurb sound quite good tbh, with "no nasty suprises" promised.

Might be worth a looking at.

Hmmm, this might be worth looking into.

I've just done a quote with Click4Warranty - and 12 months cover, which includes turbo, clutch and all labour associated with them is £267.

I wonder if there is a time limit between taking out the policy and claiming ;)

Ive been with warranty direct since the skoda warranty ran out , thats the last 3 years , had a few small jobs done like Aircon Fan and Temp sensor on engine now at 120k , if had saved the premiums i would be in pocket after paying the bills myself by a about £500 , but i have had the knwoldedg all is covered , now at above 100k miles they only cover 50% of parts and 100% labour so only worth ongoing costs in case something expensive goes wrong , they do pay up well but best if you use there recomended dealers , which is Nationwide , if its anyone else even a skoda dealer , you have to pay and claim the money back .
