Featured Replies

might have drive shaft problem under power when accellerating car feels like it has oval wheels

the whole car seems to be moving feels like its out of ballence there is no clicking on full lock

it sounds like running over cats eyes but not all the time cant tell which side it could be its a tdi 1.9dsg

motor factors dont seem to stock driveshafts for my car they sugigest main dealer.

if its out of ballance do they have ballance weights?if i can figure out which one maybe could have

it reconditioned

any ideas much appreciated

many thanks

Have you checked your wheel nuts?

Had a very similar problem - turned out to be front wheel tracking all out of alignment (probably due to hitting a pothole) which had led to uneven tyre wear. Suggest you go somewhere with 4-wheel laser tracking checking system and see if that's the problem

think its lot worse than tracking its a bit like towing a tank full of liquid that is sloshing about

and can feel it through floor gonna get mechanic to remove drive shaft have a look see if

he can find anything

thanks

How old is the car and what is the mileage? It think it could be suspension bushes. Worn bushes can cause the car to wander, and change direction when slowing or accelerating.

Not sure how that explains the sounding like running over cats eyes tho?

It is unlikely to be the drive shaft itself but its possible its the CV joint, which I assume you can get from the motor factor. But then this would not explain the wandering feeling.

Final though on the wandering. Years ago I had some budget tyres on an old fiesta and they caused the car to move all over the road. When I changed the tyres te problem immediately went away. ( Was not the inflation pressure)

i its 2007 90,000 got bridgestons fitted my wife says its feels like oval tyre with bumping under floor

if you ease off throtle it stops interestingly its not as bad when cold after half an hour drining it gets progressivly

worse i was towing double jet ski trailer last week on motorway it was nocking so bad i rang a friend with

recovery truck did not think i was gonna get home limped home at 30 mph next day did not seem bad at all

and still driving around whats going on

Hmmmmm,

Think your best bet is to get it lifted up and go round all the bushes and links to see i anything looks worn. I think its is most likely a bush problem. Regular towing can increase bush wear.

Look at the ball joints, shockers and springs, bouncing feeling could just be a knackered shocker check for oil leaks around them and change both if one is away

Take it in for a MoT - if there is any suspension wear - baljjoints, bushes etc or wheel bearings etc. they will quite happily flag it up for you!

here,s the funny thing its been getting worse since july and have to say driving on bumpy

roads it is a bit knocky soundiing underneath but its been like that for past year just had mot in august

went straight through not even an advisory got mechanic to take for me and told him i was worried about

bit of chatter under car he said he would have a look before taking it in well he said was,nt any excessive

play anywhere and at that time it not driving anywhere like as bad as it is now keep thinking cv joint due

to sound like running over cats eyes which can be felt through floor just don,t know if cv joint would cause

car to shudder like oval wheel effect think i have to get it to garage this week before it causes more damage

not got confidence in main dealer d. m. keith in leeds had a wheel bearing go last year the noise was so

bad could ,nt hear radio they said could not find anything wrong took two further visits before they found

bearing was almost collapsing well will let you know the outcome very shortly

many thanks

Nothing like a good old bit of thread resurrection!

Kawasaki, did you ever get to the bottom of this? Just that after both front wishbone bushes, an NSR wheel bearing and a four wheel alignment my Scout is still a bit wobbly between 50 and 60. Not in a the wheels are moving kind of way, more of a lateral wobble across the car body in the suspension (a bit like driving in a high cross wind). Not strictly noticeable if you're not looking for it amongst the natural pitch and wallow of rural roads, but quite obvious on a smooth motorway.

My guess is further suspension bits worn out; the price of driving a car for 5 years in Pothole Central, or rural South Lanarkshire! Hoping you might have a steer as to which suspension bits?

Niall

OK so driving at a steady speed round a left hand corner (right hand side of car weighting up) creates the wobble - nothing to be felt driving around a right hander (weighting up the left hand side of the car).

Nothing like a good old bit of thread resurrection! Pt2

Niall - Did you ever get to the bottom of your wobble?

I have a 2009 Octavia 1.9 TDI 4x4 that is performing in a very similar way.

I've had it checked at several garages and no-one has spotted anything.

Bushes were checked on the ramps using a big crowbar and there is no significant movement in any of them. The suspension setup at the rear has about 3000 bushes, so I don't really want to just replace them all as it would be more than the car is worth!

If they do find something and it fails, won't this have the downside of meaning you instantly have no MoT and won't be able to drive the car other than to somewhere to get it fixed or for another MoT test?

Took it for an MOT. It passed. I pointed out the fault before the MOT and they looked carefully at it and found no defects nonetheless.

It still wanders over the road in a dangerous fashion. So it has to be an issue that wouldn't be detected at an MOT, such as camber setting or something like that.

I had a Passat that behaved in a similar way after I changed the springs. The camber was out noticeably and correcting that solved the problem, but that was obvious to the eye in the way that the Octavia is not.

It has also got progressively worse rather than suddenly becoming that way, which suggests that this is not caused by smacking a pot hole and putting things out in a oner.

I have had a very similar issue on my 59 plate VRS TDI. It feels like a wheel balance prob but I've had them balance numerous times and have the same problem now with my winter wheels and tyres fitted. Mine feels like the front end is bouncing across the road at about 80 mph on standard wheels and tyres and around 85 on my winter set.

I've replaced both front driveshafts as I thought it might be CV joints but no joy.

Tracking is all good.

I'm beginning to wonder if it could be aerodynamic as in something flapping around, maybe the engine bay undershield.

Any thoughts guys?

Are the shocks ok, also check the console bushes are not worn.
