Paint protection

As part of the dealbreaker on my on-order SM, I am to get rfee Supaguard treatment. Having seen lots of mentions of different polishing products (eg Autoglym) on various threads here, I wondered if anyone has any views (or, even better, scientific understanding!) of whether there is any virtue in applying other treatments on top of Supaguard or, indeed, if it would do any damage. When the beast arrives, I want to keep a showroom shine as long as possible.

Andrew,

you might be better asking in the "Styling and Car Care" section of the Forum, as that is where the "detailing" experts seem to reside. (when they;re not polishing their steeds)

In the past I've had Supaguard, Diamondbrite & Gardex all similar and all requiring once a month application of a conserver on paintwork to maintain shine & protection. IMO they all do a similar job with good results providing they are applied correctly in the first place, ie. to a perfectly clean well prepared surface. Mine have all been included in the deals and there is no way I'd pay the £300ish for them. Better by going the DIY route via fleabay. This time for me it will be Auto Glym's Lifeshine which I expect to be much the same as the others. Of course the interior treatment to fabric or leather is a big plus. Personally once these treatments have been applied I'd only stick with the appropriate conserver applications.

Dedicated detailers would pooh pooh them all.

It's a case of putting trust in the valeter's preparation and that's the rub (excuse pun).
