New Car and now parking sensors won't work.

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Well I have had my car just over two weeks now and I can safely say we are in love. Everything I expected and more.

What I did'nt expect was a little problem thats occurred this morning which in turn is going to result in me going back to the dealers with it after only two weeks.

I have front & rear parking sensors which today have decided to stop working. Instead when I put the car into reverse or press the PDC button on the centre console I am greeted with a loud continuious beep which lasts for about 4 seconds. Obviously its telling me that something isn't right.

Prior to this I have had no issue with them. The car was washed and valeted about three days ago and has'nt been driven since then.

Could water have got into the sensors? Is it a common fault with the Octavia? Anyone else had this? Would be keen to know.

Back to the dealers tommorrow for their service dept to diagnose and rectify the issue.

Not the best of starts but hey ho. Teething problems can occur in any car I guess.

I have rear sensors on my new vRS and each time i wash it some one of the sensors goes mad.. It has settled each time though emoticon-0148-yes.gif

It's a common problem with parking sensors in general. My Octavia is going in to get them fixed this week, and my previous BMW went faulty too. Jet pressure washing seems to make them go wrong of they are not perfectly sealed.

If the tone goes all the time, then tap affected sensor and the water splashes out. Its affected both front and rears on mine on the odd wet day. My loca dealer refused to investigate as "we'd need to remove the bumper" so I've lived with it.

That would not impress me! I bought my car second-hand, with 6 months manufacturer warranty left, from a non-skoda garage. My local Skoda dealer is fixing mine under warranty, no hassles.

Sounds like your dealer is a lazy :swear: .

Can you tell via the display on the radio which one is faulty I.e when the beep is solid does the car display show the blue and orange proximity just in one place on the bumper? Might give you an idea of which one needs drying out as a quick fix. At least it will tell you if it's front or back.

Hi, I was hoping that i could locate the issue that way. Unfortunately nothing even shows up on the bolero screen. It's blank! :(

Def faulty, take it straight back!

Mine have the odd gremlin, all the front will light up red on the screen or a corner one will. Each time there is nothing near the sensor. I've found giving them a wipe usually stops it.

Picked mine up early September and for the first 6 weeks or so after driving in the rain one of the front corner sensors would stay on 'red'. Once the car had dried out, it would be back to normal. Touch wood though, everything seems to have settled down and it's all been fine with the rain we've had recently.

Fingers crossed... I'll probably leave it for something to be looked into on the 1st service if it's just something occasional.

Pic attached...

Well folks.

As if by magic.

I did a short journey last night. Put the car into reverse to park up.

Guess what happens?...

Yes, the PDC started working again. No problem. Shows up on the Bolero as normal and everything.

Happy bunny again.

Must of had some water inside the sensor thats now dried out. Will keep an eye on it though now.

Lesson for me here is not to jetwash the sensors.

Edit for accuracy :)

Mine started working yesterday, for the first time in the 3 weeks I've owned it, and the day I was due to take it to the dealer to get fixed! Luckily they say they still managed to find the faulty one, and replaced it and colour coded it all fine.

I'm a happy chap

I reckon it broke when the garage I bought it from jet washed it!

Now they are not working again.

Defo time for dealers to sort. Booked in for tueday to get replacement sensor fitted.

I have a slightly different problem with PDC/ reverse gear. Sometimes (about once a day!) when I have used reverse gear & select 1st, the Bolero screen remains active. So do the reverse sensors, which is a bit disconcerting in traffic when the car behind me in the jam sets them off when it gets in range. The odd thing is that the gear change indicator on the Maxidot display also stops working. I was going to live with it, as being intermittant it would be bound to behave itself at the Dealers. However, as of yesterday, I now know that the reversing light doesn't disengage and remains on. So, Dealers it is.Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem; mines a face lift model registered in June this year.

Do you have front parking sensors too? If you switch from reverse to 1st, the parking sensors remain active while you are at low speed. That wouldn't explain the reverse light, though. :wonder:
