RUST! Warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have (or at least the car has) a small spot of surface rust on the drivers arch, nothing too serious but its there.

I know our cars have 10 year bodywork warranty but what is the chance of getting it sorted by skoda for free?

Many thanks

Corrosion has to come from inside out rather than from the surface for it to be covered.

Suprising, not seen rust on these cars before. Any pics?

We had rust appear on a tailgate & that was caused by the glass rubbing, aparently a known problem & Skoda fixed it without question.

The best you can do is ask a dealer but I would guess its come from some previous damage not being repaired or not repaired properly. Do you know the cars history from new

I had this fixed, twice.... shame the paint has gone white (rather than silver) though :-( and the car is out of the original warranty period, so Skoda and the VW approved workshop don't give a toss.

Hi all

Thanks for the replies, will try and atke a pic tomorrow.

I have the history on the car, it has had 3 prior owners so Im guessing its gone a winter without a wash and the salty snow has got to it, or a stone chip has exposed the base metal, either way I need it treating, may pop along to Skoda this week, I will let you know what the verdict is

Ps- its about the size of a 5p at most and on the back of the front arch (where the metal folds to meet the arch liner, prime spot for a flying stone!

Im currently having my boot and suspension turrets looked at by Skoda. They are supposed to be booking me into the bodyshop shortly

Sounds like a good time to jack up the car on each corner and remove the plastic arch liners and clean the wells, they may well be caked with mud, especially at the front as mentioned!

A flowerpot full in each corner usually!

my father in law had a rusty n/s wheel arch on his vw bora,it was right at the top of the arch,vw said the arch liner was rubbing through the paint and they would not fix it.take your liners out and give them a good clean out with lots of wd40.you could waxoyl them to.

I just noticed the same on my hatchback the other day. There is rust coming through the paint. Mine is an 03 so should still be within bodywork warranty. What would be the best course of action? Just take it to a dealer or contact Skoda direct?

If you contact Skoda direct, they will just tell you to take it to a dealer so that they can submit the paperwork and probably photos.

Good Luck!

I've just bought a used Skoda Octavia (2004) and I have rust in exactly this place (and on the opposite side too), seems it must be a weak spot for corrosion. I didn't know anything about an anti-corrision warranty, could this mean that despite my car having had several owners, I could take this into a Skoda Dealer and realistically expect them to fix this for free?
