For those of you that have the vRS gear lever rattle.

Featured Replies

It seems that the gear lever rattle has become more of a common problem now, & Skoda Technical have come up with some new parts to solve the problem.

Mine has been rattling for the last 1000 miles or so since it had 100 miles on it. It only happens when in neutral, in it's idle state i.e. not when it's pushed to the left or right.

According to Skoda Technical, it is down to the selection cables rattling on the transmission tunnel. New parts are expected but no part numbers have been released yet, so my car is on the list for the new parts.

If you have the rattle, it maybe worth popping it your dealer & mentioning it.

Coincidently, I have another rattle/flapping noise which maybe linked. It happens when the engine is moved back on it's mounts i.e when shifting up a gear or on & off "throttle" actions & seems to be coming from the nearside bulk head area. The mechanics spent a few hours trying to find the cause of this noise. They checked the exhaust, all engine mounts, disconnented the pendulm link & rocked the engine manually, but couldn't find what was causing it. They're waiting for the new selection cables to arrive so they can have a more detailed investigation.

Just thought I would share this with you.

Cheers, handy to know ;)

I had it bad, but 4k miles later i dont have it at all now :)

Will keep this in mind if it decides to pop back though

Ross aren't you ment to be telling us about these things :D

Do you miss it? It's rather like that new car smell, when it's gone all of a sudden you realise that your car is not so new! :D

Oh yeah...doh.

Im still waiting for something offical on the rear brakes, some dealers seem to have the info some dont, guess the latest stuff is just working its way around, you would have thought we'd be first being in M.K the same as Skoda, but there you go.

Pulleyns in York have the fix which they are applying to mine on the 11th March when I take the car in.

I had the revised linkage fitted to cure my rattling gear lever. The new parts work well - you can hear the vibration dying away as the dampers take over.

We suspected that one of the causes of the problem is that the gear knob on a vRS is lighter than on other Fabias, so doesn't contribute to damping down the rattles. Haven't yet tried taping fishing weights to the gear knob to test the theory, though.

Do you know how much lighter? Would have thought with all that "ink" used for the extra gear on the gate, it would be heavier ;)

That's good to know!

On my old Fabia Elegance the chrome knob was quite heavy. The 6-speed gear knob seems to have a lightweight panel for the markings, with not much substance beneath it. This may be enough to make a difference to its damping qualities.

I have this problem too, I'd appreciate the part numbers when they are available

I've had a flapping noise on my fabia, it's started to get louder on the motorway today so I pulled over on to the hard shoulder to have a very quick look underneath the car. Turns out its the "heat shield" that goes over the exhaust it's worked it's way lose somehow.

Anyone else had this?

Don't know if the parts have already been released but emailed the dealer that's got my car last night about this, and they claim to have fixed it (along with everything else) today... Will find out for myself tomorrow morning if they're right...

Ive had it on mine. Its nothing out of the ordinary. The heat shields are only secured with push on clips which can work loose.

I noticed mine used to vibrate when I shut the tailgate.

We have something like this too, only notice it when lifting off or accelerating - I've not looked but I did suspect a squeaky engine mount.

Dropped into the dealer today and mentioned the Gear Lever fix and he said 'yeah we know about that, there aren't any new parts they've just changed the numbers, run it for about 4000 miles and it'll stop itself'!!

I calmly walked away whilst thinking to myself that I was right all along about the dealers and wondering why I bother to go back.

I suspect the reason the part numbers are changed is ermmmm - because the parts have changed maybe!!

It may cure itself in 4k miles but it might not so in the mean time they can apply the fix - but i'll be in touch with Skoda UK before I go back to the dealer and put the rocket up his @rse.

Could this be Sparsh*** s per chance old boy??

I should have mine fitted next week (parts are on back order, but now on a VOR basis). I'll try to get the part numbers off them.

Part numbers for the gear lever rattle are:

6Q0711265AD and 6Q0711266P

Ta-da!

Cheers JUT the dealers can't pull the wool once you've got the part numbers (hopefully !) :D

Had "dealings" with their Sales and Service staff at their Subaru dealership in Botley :( .... nice to see consistency across their dealerships ;)
