Trouble starting on Cold Starts

Featured Replies

I know its a golf but same engine as an early fabia... pd130 asz

basically the car doesn't like cold morning starts

it will turn over first time but ass soon as it kicks into life it stuggles and revs at 700rpm and sounds as if its going to stall! even if you press the throttle the engine will not gain revs

after around 10seconds this clears and it idles normally at around 1000rpm, throttle response is sluggish still and it wont rev enough to take off in first gear

after about 30seconds all is good and were ready to rock and roll....

warm starts there is no issues

any idea's?

My moneys on the glow plugs Jase, but you're already changing them.

You'll see a massive difference when you've done em. Wanna come down and do mine whilst your at it?

Nope :p

i wouldn't dare do anyone elses.... am scared incase i mess my own up! penetrating fluid this time is a must... then some contact grease for the harness

should then be good :)

im thinking at the minute the car's starting up on 2 or 3 cylinders and then the rest are joining in when its heated up a bit

possibility?

Oddly I sometimes have the opposite problem. When really cold, the exhaust chucks out a light grey smoke for a few seconds. I have put it down to a combination of glow plugs working, and big holed nozzles probably chucking in more fuel on tickover (1100rpm for me) than it perhaps needs. C'est la vie.

Can you tell I am bothered? Nope. :D

That maybe a possibility...........hmmmmmm???

They shouldn't be that tight in the first place really. I think they are tightened to something like 15nm and they don't have to be that tight as they have a tapered seat.

Just put a small amount of copperslip on the threads of the new plugs and screw them in half way in by hand. Its the best way to make sure the thread doesn't cross. That's the last thing you want and is quite easy to do if you ain't careful.

Yeah its a pest though as mines is a Tank so when i start it up i want out of the neighbourhood asap
