Golf MKV Gti side skirts...........

Featured Replies

I'm not expecting much joy with this topic, but hey ho! I'll ask anyway,

I have been toying with the idea of fitting a set of mkV gti side skirts to my octy, I will be getting a set anyway for swmbo's new oil burner so I will be able to do a dry fit. Until then I was wondering if any member had done or even thought about this mod?!

Lee.

I'll be doing this along with a WRC sometime soon http://www.superskoda.com/articles/ville-finland

They look mint, not over styled, looks like I will be ordering 2 sets!!  B)

At £26 + vat per side, its not going to break the bank!

Tidy!

Apart from painting, do they need much work? Do they need cutting/filling, and will they fit the hatch? :wonder:

Pagey, you got that headlight yet??

All i'd say is that you get the 5-door variety not the 3-door for obvious reasons. Should be a straight fit

That is the main reason for the topic, but looking at the images from Super Skoda they look like a straight forward fit! There a couple of other bits required for fiiting but they only cost about 15 quid!

Sorted the courier with muckipup, from experience I should get it early next week, I will keep you posted on 'project black lamp'.

I'm pretty sure the skirts are the same for 3 and 5 door, they are also the same as fitted to the ED30 and R32.

Im looking for a nice subtle set of skirts for mine and yet to find a set i like. Anyone got a link so me to have a look please. If they are right then group buy if possible? :)

Pics before and after will be nneeded ;) im intrested in that one. its nice and cheap :)

Yep, i'm interested too.

Are you going to paint them or just leave them matt black? The GTI has them black (apart from ED30 and Pirelli).

and the R32........

It will be my next project, after the HU upgrade and 'project black headlamp' that is, :giggle:

I will definately be colour coding them. I can't for the life of me understand why they are left unpainted on the standard GTi along with the rear valance! :S

Swmbo will soon be getting a mkV Golf GT 140, first mod (after a remap) will be adding the GTi front splitter, side skirts and rear valance - all of which will be colour coded! Subtle styling that makes a massive difference to the overall look, imo!

Edit: It may be important to note the part numbers I have posted are for the R32 side skirts - which are the same as the GTi, but I have it on good authority that the latter are textured and the former are smoooooooooth!!!

they look really good and a lot cheaper than id imagined. Are they glued on?

You fit a support strip to the sill, bonded or self tappers, then the skirt has an adhesive strip around its perimeter, peal off the backing and stick it on.............easy as pie! (apparently).

I think they will be more work involved on the Octy though! I will find out soon enough.

I'm not surprised Super Skoda doesn't supply them, firstly because they are a VW product and secondly because they are tasteful........ :giggle:

Seriously though, the only side skirts on there that take my fancy are small additions to the rear of the seal, probably about a foot long, and they are more expensive than the genuine GTi skirts from VW - no brainer really!

Ordered these this morning..... yes, those codes are for smooth, primed for painting. Will let you know how I get on. I've ordered black, as the car is anthracite, I have a black LCR splitter, and can't be faffed with the time & expense of getting 'em painted.

They may well chip easily behind the front wheels if painted too!

nice one. looking forward to see how they look  any chance of some fitting pictures or are you getting someone else to put them on?

All parts ordered at Dublin VW dealer today @ €136inc. VAT (@ 21%!), the only difference being that I ordered black, not primed? Is your price inc. VAT, painting & fitting by any chance? :giggle:

DOH..

try getting in touch with the person hwo quoted you.. get it in writing then they cant go back on the quote :)

Right just phoned them back and the primed ones are £185 +vat!!!!!

The GTI unprimed are £26 +vat

How crazy is that lol

Il update this with the part numbers when he phones me back in a bit, but be worth someone else checking this with VW also so it aint just a mistake on their part.

I got my info on prices and part numbers from here and here

I have just contacted Canterbury TPS and they have quoted £207.49 + vat per skirt............. :o I'm not sure where the Golf boys got their info but I intend to find out!! Sorry to put a spanner in the works, but I will not be completing this mod' at those prices. :'(

Well, I had to stand aside & let you try "project black headlamp" :D I had actually wondered where to get something for the sills after I fitted the LCR splitter.

I really think the unpainted black ones will look OK on your black octy? Alternatively, a decent bodyshop will be able to prime & fill the textured ones, or you could sand 'em smooth.

£207 + vat is taking the P
