WHICH TYRES ?

Featured Replies

Just replace the front hoops from the OE Dunlop Sports Maxx GTs with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 are they appear a much better tyre but then it is always difficult to be fair about these issues.

Tyres seem to be progressively poorer as they age and therefore a new whatever often seem better than a one year old tyre.

On the 18 inch rims of the FL VRS the choice is not always the same as other Octys.

Yes Contis always seem on the podium as do the latest Michelins. Like the boys in blue I tend to replace when still a millimeter above the wear block as wet weather performance suffers below the 3 mm.

Rotate from front to back when tyres reach say 4mm and always have the better tyres on the front of course. Also having a full sized spare alloy makes life easier rotating.

Can report Michelin Primacy HP's fitted today by EVENT TYRES - mobile fitting service - fantastic! Arrived at 07:30 prompt this morning - tyres fitted in no time - no damage to alloys - terrific deal on price. Can't praise this outfit enough.

Glad it went well for you. Just priced mine at £179.69 per tyre with them. Substantially more than the £106 it cost me for Michelin with the 'damaging' local independent for 245/45-17.

I have Dunlop Maxx GT's as standard on both our cars BUT the Octy ones have only lasted 6500 miles

Good grip in the dry but noisy

I think I'll be replacing them with either Uniroyal Rainsports or Vredestein's.....Excellent reviews on both and not a bad price

I run the same Dunlop tyres and find they are wearing pretty well. I am guessing I will get somewhere in the low 20K miles out of the set. They are Noisy though, as you say. Not sure what I would replace them with. Sheldons of Manchester, reckon they are the ideal tyres for an A4. Got my winter Vredesteins on mow and find they are much quieter!! My previous Vredestein Snowtracs where pretty noisy in comparison to the Wintracs.

the dunlops fitted to my VRS only lasted 9000 miles before they needed replacing and that was just motorway miles on them. Not ompirssed at all. Bought some falkens and they seem ok so far. Everyone seems to have their own preference though. Had continentals on all my previous cars ( french manufactured so they came standard) and they seemed to be really good, in fact, i cant remember even replacing any of them!

I have Dunlop Maxx GT's on my Vrs, noisey with uneven wear, expensive and only done 7K !!! Will not replace with same.

I too have Dunlop Sport Maxx GT from new and have been very disappointed with the wear. Grip is good but they have also become much noisier

11000 miles and the fronts have just about had it, now on the back for a couple of thousand miles.

Nearly all my miles have been gentle, think of driving Miss Daisy up the motorway.

I got 22000 miles on each set of Goodyear F1 Assymetrics on a 270hp Focus ST driven much quicker.

So it will be anything but Dunlops when I change

I think I'm going to get Toyo T1R 215s on my front summers while they're off the car - the Vreds are quite worn now with 18k or so on - just above the wear bear on the insides. My rear Michelin Primacys are just insane - 40k on them and they still look like new.

Just replaced my Continentals with Kumho Ecsta KU31's, the drop in noise on the motorway is remarkable. A far greater difference than the hours I have spent fitting sound deadening etc! The Continentals were noisy from when I got the car at 4000 miles. Just over £360 for the 4, fitted & balanced by the best tyre place in the South East IMHO, Bracknell Tyres (which is 2 minutes walk from where I work luckily!). Their fitted price is less than the cheapest mail order tyres only places...
