Kkk K03 Turbo

Featured Replies

Does anyone really technical know what the maximum boost setting is for the k03 turbo?

I know the turbo areas are devided into three,

green area=recomended

yellow area=ok, but little of the scale

red area=max out, lifetime is affected.

Now the original setting is 0,89bar in the Octavia RS and that's well within the green area i'd presume.

But where's the red area? Is it around 1,3bars or?

I also know that the kkk k04 has the maximum setting of 2,1bars.

Cheers,

FD :drive:

The Dutch Seat guys fiddling with their boost usually don't go beyond 1.2, 1.3 max.

Dunno about the bar bit, I only know the PSI figures. These are, IIRC:

Green is up to 14

Yellow is up to 16

Red is 17+

Anybody that can translate Tavia's psi values into bar pressure?

Thanks Tavia!! :D

/FD

With pleasure.

14 psi = 0.952 bar

16 psi = 1.088 bar

17 psi = 1.156 bar

I used the useful converter in our links here - courtesy of the TDIClub.

PS I will check your link, FD, and add it to ours if it looks better. Interesting that it gives slightly different results to the TDIClub converter....

IIRC from my school physics lessons, 1 bar = 14.7 psi. Mind you, that was a long time ago - money was still

OK, I give in! Pressure is obviously a bit lower in Canada than elsewhere.

Coming back to the reall world, my 2" tyre pressure gauge - which shows bars on the outer scale and psi on the inner - and is representative of a car instrument but for the rubber housing and large brass tube - gives the following conversions:

14 psi = a tadge under 1 bar

16 psi = 1.1 bar

17 psi = a smidgeon under 1.2 bar

if you check the compressor map for the K03, it's pump limit is at 1.2-1.25 bar. Over that the compressor lives a dangerus life..

Forgive my UTTER ignorance but is the K03 the standard vRS turbo?

I'm afraid i'll have to say Yes.

It would be nice with a K04 in the original state that is.

It's the K03sport, of course, so half a K04 :D

I was about to say it's a hybrid but Dutch was too quick onthe draw....:D

to clarify this once and for all....

(cos i havent yet got my head round it...)

golf/octavia 1.8t 150 = k03

vRS/ TT = k03/k04 hybrid

tt 225 = k04

am i right?

p.s. whats hybrid about it?

Not entirely, Paul - see http://forums.briskoda.net/showthread.php?postid=21519#post21519

The hybridity is in the K03 casing housing a K04 turbine.

thanks for that...

if its not a daft question... if i bought a k04 casing and moved the internals from my k03 sport into it would i then have a k04 and more power? - or is the diff so minor its not worth it?

Not absolutely right...

vRS = K03/K04 hybrid

TT (225hp) = K04

TT (180hp) = K03 until end 2000, = K03/K04 hybrid since 2001 (at least those imported to Greece since 01/01/2001)

Octavia 1.8T-2WD (150hp-AUM engine code) = K03 until end 2000 = K03/K04 hybrid since 2001 (at least those imported to Greece since 01/01/2001)

Octavia 1.8T-4x4 (150hp-ARX engine code) = K03/K04 hybrid (since 2001 these were imported to Greece from 01/10/2001)

That's what we have checked with constructor's book in Audi/VW/Skoda/Seat...

There is a mistake about the 150hp 2WD engine in the FAQ section of Briskoda.net. This has to do with VVT, K03/K04 hybrid and bigger injectors. The AUM engine has all these goodies as the AUQ (vRS) and ARX (4x4) engines;)

Chris, we are currently dealing with this. See http://forums.briskoda.net/showthread.php?postid=21519#post21519

But thanks all the same for showing your involvement! You say you have been studying VW/Audi/Seat instruction manuals too - is there any way that you can help expand the list in the link above?

Dutch 4X4,

Thanks for the link provided. I' ll try to add any information that I can find to the list.

Just give me some time to consult my friends with these manuals...:)

Great! What more can I ask? :)
