Radio Volume

Featured Replies

Hey

Ok ive been driving around in my VRS for a few weeks now and ive noticed that if yu twissle the volume knob up to fast the volume doesnt increase!

AND

it doesnt matter how fast you twizzle it, the volume does not go up atall past about 23 ... WHAT!!??!! is music not alowed to be loud anymore.. is this a built in were skoda and we think everybody who owns our cars are still 80, or is this actually a problem?

and if it is a problem, does it still exist if you swap the radio to a random one like pioneer alpine etc.... and everyday aftermarket radio

... think you've been twissling your knob too hard ! :giggle:

Is what you're really saying, is that your stero isn't loud enough ?

Is not as loud as i would have expected.... the number goes up to 40 or more but the volume wont actually increase above 23 ish..... and its a very very quiet system. you can still hear engine noise etc at a 40mph cruise home.

very very quiet

My old 95 rover 100 standard stereo went louder.

Have a look at the GALA setting, and make sure 'LOUD' is selected...

Agreed, turn GALA off if anything, I found it to be pretty useless. Trying playing with the front/rear fade aswell if you have rear speakers. I think the symphony just has very poor amplification, the cheapest/simplest/most effective starting point for more volume would be an after market headunit.

+1

Skoda headunits are pony-poo TBH

Upgrade the speakers ;)

Then add some sound deadening material to the insides of the doors.

Oh, and disconnect the tweeters in the rears doors.

That's not impossible - it would be caused by the speakers being pushed beyond their frequency range - normally resulting in a bit of a dull thumping noise being produced by the speaker

As the speaker tries to reproduce the bass frequencies, it cannot physically move fast enough to reproduce the high range frequencies (at the same time).

This is way better quality speakers come with crossover units - which only allow frequencies within the range of the given speaker though to it.

whats this GALA ?

"Graduated Audio Level Adjustment" According to wikipedia!

Simply put, it auto adjusts the volume level in accordance with the speed of the vehicle to compensate for road/wind noise etc. I found that if you're listening on a high volume to begin with though, it does strange things to the volume and you can hear the GALA chopping in and out. Very annoying!

so this is why it randomly goes quiet? i cant remember if its when i boot it ior when i slow dow to a junction .... royally gets on my nerves......

Will getting an aftermarket radio cd player thing, solve the problem and will the dreaded gala be destroyed?

Either RTFM or twiddle with the settings on the radio, & switch GALA off, you will find the radio / CD player is actually quite good.

Unless you are either well into Drum & Bass / House music & must have amps & subs all over the car, or have really good hearing that can hear every nuance of notes in a song.

A bit drastic changing the H/U just for the sake of 3 mins to change a setting.

I believe that your radio is faulty and it is not a problem of settings.

I have a Symphony unit and no problem in sound level. Once above 23 or so the sound is too load - at 47 it is unbearable.

I use GALA and find it very effective at automatically increasing the sound level with increasing speed but takes a time to set up.

The only other possibility not yet mentioned is the phone input. This is meant to mute the radio when taking a call but perhaps if you have some old phone wiring hanging out the back it could do silly things.

Press the TP button for more than 2 seconds to access GALA and 16 other functions.

A brief description is here: My link . Although the description is for a later version Symphony radio, the differences are small.
