Evening all!..

Had a quick scout around this forums and seems a pleasant enough place to nest.

I'm liam, 22 and from the east midlands and currently drive a bianca white 306 GTi-6. Now im currently looking to change to something a little newer, bigger and with a turbo, hence why i've got my heart set on a octavia VRs.

My budget is around £4000

One has caught my eye local-ish on a 2005 plate, done 50,000 miles but only has partial service history. Now from what i discussed with the seller on the phone, its still on the origional cambelt aswell (abit worrying). The car is currently up for sale at £4200 but despite this i feel its still set a little too high. Am i right or wrong?

Also if there anything else i need to look out for before i go and look at it this weekend?

[hey mate im jamie 21 i have had 2 gti-6 and loved them, if your after something similar in speed with stacks of potential id go for the fabia vrs, they are better on fuel, cheaper to insure (£600 f.c )and do 50+ to the gallon, i was a bit scared to have a diesel but its well worth it, mine keeps up with octavias all day long, and i even beat a 58plate diesel octavia in a drag that was mapped to 210, mies running at 175 and i love it, p.s where bouts u from?

I've looked into the fabia jamie but they are a tad bit small for me, the whole idea of the octavia is to have a bigger car but also have abit of power there ...

it was white, really tidy, sounded sweet, no not realli i live bout 35 mile away in coalville (j22 m1)

I used to have a 306, had an old 1.9DT lol proper tractor, ive got an octavia vRS now, such a nicer car to be in. absolutely stunning to drive, running costs are high but unfortunately you won't get power/comfort without paying through the tooth!

Good luck in finding one, the one in your first post sounds reasonable, i reckon if you could knock him down to less than 4 grand due to cambelt and pump expecting imminent failure then you'd be on to a winner.

Remember though, there are absolutely loads about so don't just settle for mediocre, you can really afford to be picky mate!

I've just been to look at the black one i mentioned earlier, It was very tidy, allthough being black was covered in a few scratches. Whilst the engine was running on idle it sounded sweet as a nut HOWEVER both of the cooling fans were running. Is this normal?...

i'm from mansfield area (meden vale)

both fans running is the norm something to do with the climate/aircon.

I just wondered as i've got a lad at work who has a vRS and he said his cooling fans dont run all the time.

EDIT: This was from cold.

if the climates on they run i think. mine run as soon as its started. i'm bk home at the weekend for a day so i'll check
