I've had my furby a few weeks now and done around 2.5k miles. Still don't feel my brkes are as sharp as they should be.

Do u think there is a problem or that I am just impatient??

I had this on mine, and eventually took it back to the dealer, who agreed that they didn't inspire confidence.

They looked at it, and Skoda looked at it, and changed the brake master cylinder and servo.

But they still weren't A1 - or biting as hard as the brakes on my previous Fabia TDI.

Then one weekend I washed the car and instead of taking it for a drive I put it in the garage. Come Monday morning, the discs had thoroughly rusted over (as they do) and the first couple of stops produced a transformation. Real brakes!

I think it's possible I had glazed the pads whilst trying to bed them in, and the rust took the glazing off. Been OK since.

But if in doubt, take it to the dealer.

:thumbup: best way of curing the problem, although I am increasingly getting worried with how close the front bumper comes to the floor whilst breaking :eek:

New suspension soon :D

An even better way of curing the problem is doing wot ross did and put brembo's on! :D

Bit expensive option tho! :eek:

The best option would be for Skoda to sort the brakes out as for a sporty car it's a bit of a disgrace if they really are that bad ;)

Personally I will try it out and see how bad it actually is, it may not be too bad for me, but it seems a pretty common theme around here :D

Day to day driving there fine, and probably fine for most people's driving taste, but if you drive in a more 'spirited' manner then their bad.

I've always been pretty hard on the brakes, and I've had to learn to live with brake fading - I must admit fading sux tho :(

Thanks for the 'truth' - i.e. they're good enough for most, probably :D

I am admittedly a little surprised as the rear brakes are discs, and the car tends to be more powerful engine wise than the spec suggests too.

Hopefully I can stop myself from getting it remapped for as long as the warranty is on it, and then I'm thinking along the lines of brake upgrade, strut, Cupra & remap.

(that said by that time the Mrs will probably have spent my cash twice over anyway :rofl: )

So, let me get this right. The gneral consensus is that the brakes on the Furby are cack and really I should change them if I want to drive it like a mad man (not that I will ;) )

@awginger - seems to be the case. That said, brake fading is annoying, but it WILL still brake, just need to work them harder and harder from a pushing-down-on-the-pedal angle.

Upgrading the brakes will definitely have an impact - it will make the braking a lot better, BUT it will cost you some bhp apparently, see another fairly recent thread on that on this site :)

If you are able to try out one with uprated brakes versus a standard one using your driving style you will be able to decide what will work best for you.

For me, the brakes appeared pretty good, but admittedly I was not hammering it hard all the time (just for a few miles on a backroad, whilst I took the car for a test drive). Braking was excellent during a few hard-accelerate, hard brake sessions, it was near freezing outside though...

I went for the octy brake and ferodo ds2500 pads up front on my furby. The difference in braking was nothing short of amazing, and I'd highly recommend it. The only downsides I can see is that braking then becomes fairly front-end biased so watch it if braking hard on bends :D I'm not sure of the unsprung weight thingy though - I didn't notice any difference in terms of acceleration when I changed from 288 to 312mm.

thanks for all the advice guys. I think I will get the dealer to have a look first cos I am not really happy even when I'm not hammering it. I can be doing 40 or 50 and then the car still takes too long to stop even with my foot pushing the brake through the floor!

First step in my mind if your getting fade, is change of fluid. Once you have had fade it will only get worse over time.

If your still having braking moments then the 312 conversion seems the best bet for the outlay...I think I read a post about some uprated pads that will fit the Fabia though.

Pads are the next key :)

If you press fairly hard on the brake pedal, car will slow down quite quickly.

If you're doing it at speed and repetitively, you'll notice that if you brake as hard as you did the first time, it won't stop the car as quickly. Also, when slowing down, the rate of deceleration will slow down too, i.e. you won't be slowing down as quickly as when you initially started slowing down.

It's most noticeable when you go on track and give the car a good thrashing. Can get a little worrying when you get to the chicane at the end of the straight to realise your brakes don't seem to be doing anything to slow you down :eek: :D

Youll find nothing wrong... thats what my brakes were like before the upgrade :(

If I went with the 312 things that everybody else seems to have how much is it likely to cost and will it invalidate my warranty??

Anybody tried just putting dot 4.1 or dot 5 fluid and braided hoses on the standard setup? This might be a cheaper stopgap solution for those too lazy, skint or inept to fit the 312mm setup...
