I went for the estate for the dog and for the roof bars...I think ordinary roof racks look awful compared to some aero cross bars on the factory roof bars.

(Thats aero profile bars, not bubbly chocolate)

As well as holding on to most of the difference in price come resale time, the Combi/Estate will sell quicker too. It'll sell even quicker if it's powered by the devils fuel as well :D

Don't like the estate shape compared to the hatch and not keen on the 2 litre diesel CR engine compared to the 130hp PD, sideways step on performance rather than the leaps there has been on the petrol engine as recognised by the Vienna International engine awards. VAG now lagging behind other with the diesel technology.

So hatch and petrol way to go, any petrol 1.2. 1.4, 1.8 or 2 litre. Shame Fabia gets 180 hp 1.4 petrol and not Octavia does not yet.

1.8 TSI, DSG best of all worlds IMO.

For the second consecutive year, the Volkswagen 1.4-liter TSI Twincharger engine has been declared the winner at the International Engine of the Year Awards.

The 72 member panel was impressed that the engine produces "almost 180 bhp (134 kW / 183 PS), despite its small capacity, thanks to the intelligent use of both a turbocharger and a supercharger." According to IEOTYA co-chair Dean Slavnich, "That VW's clever 1.4-liter Twincharger is still proclaimed by the judges as the best engine on sale in the world today demonstrates the class of this highly refined trend setter."

1.8-liter to 2-liter

1.BMW 2-litre Twin Turbo Diesel (123d, X1 23d) 293

2.Audi 2-litre four-cylinder TFSI (Audi A4, A4 Allroad, A5, A5 Sportback, A6, Q5, S3, VW Scirocco, Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, Golf, Seat Leon, Cupra R, Exeo, Skoda Octavia RS) 215

3.Audi 2-litre four-cylinder TFSI (Audi TT, VW Eos, Golf, Seat Leon, FR/Cupra, Seat Altea/XL/Freetrack) 156

I think sales figures would probably beg to differ on that one :giggle:

Don't know sales figures, suspect they are fairly similar, see if I can find out.

Might consider a diesel in I lived in one of the countries below where diesel is cheaper than petrol, would miss the zing of the petrol and I would have to have a 5 or 6 cylinder diesel to get the performance of the 1.8 TSI. In GB cannot see the attraction of the diesel, or estate not can VAG judging by there R&D etc.

There has been a small trend for diesel prices to rise more than petrol.
