Brochure here:

Confirms they're the same length.

I was looking at the new Estate vRS the other day. Quite liking it in Anthracite Grey  and is what i would get if i was changing.

i have the hatch and my neighbor has the estate, when they are next to each other on our drives they are the same length.

I had the same question, hatch all the way for me.

I put two cars side by side and you'll see there really is no benefit to estate except the flat loading area.

Unless you need the extra bit over and above the hatch (maybe fit an 80 litre bergen rucksack in the extra space, nothing more).

I like the look of hatch especially the spoiler - old school.

agreed, im looking at a new TSI vRS estate now, but also considering whether to buy a 2-3 year old tfsi estate, and throw the rest of money on mods, but then i look at the TDI PD170 and wander if a de DPF would be worth a punt

I beg to differ - IMO the estate looks every bit as good as the hatch, especially if you mod it slightly

ive owned the hatch, and i honestly prefer the look of the estate

I own both (although the Estate is an L&K) and i have to admit i do like the estate and the extra practicality it brings.

Had both and thought that the estate was not worth the money. Only slightly more boot space so unless you are carrying washing machine or the like then what is the point. Even the labrador fits in the hatch virtual as well as the estate.

More weight over the rear axle, therefore worse acceleration, looks like a hearse, yuk.

Nuff said

Damn now I have to think long and hard about the £800 price difference

 personal choice but no for me

Am having the VRS spoiler added to the 1.8 TSI hatch as think look better than standard boot spoiler reckon.

more weight over the rear axle, so better weight distribution, so better handling :p :p

that said, i think the weight difference is only around 15kg

This is my first estate, and I'm finding it really useful. I must admit, if I didn't have kids, then I would probably have gone for the hatch.

Check out Brimma's and Pagey's estates though. They look fantastic. At least I'm starting with a Black Magic one, so I might be inspired by them.

Yes about 1%. Better handling, hum. BMW with the 50:50 are not so good in very wet or snow conditions.

They are also RWD and mostly driven by twonks who can't drive :giggle:

Estate all the way! Hatch doesn't look as good! Same for lots of brands. Audi A4 anyone?

Mind you, saw an FL hatch in black recently and was surprised by how good it looked. Think it had been lowered!

All IMHO of course!

Had estate, sorry COMBI first, now hatch. Genuinely surprised how little difference there is in boot space. Oh, and the est...COMBI has two extra windows to clean...

Personal preference. I didn't have a choice on this car as it happened.

If I was buying brand new again now, I'd get the estatdamnCOMBI

SWMBO's TSI VRS hatch is black and my 1.8 TSI DSG L&K hatch is black, with VRS type spoiler, his and hers. Will be interesting to see if ride height is noticably different. It is keeping it clean that is annoying compared to silver etc!

Do we get the impression you're not keen on the estate?

lol

Also not keen on the cr vrs either!!!!!!!!

lol

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I got the estate for the practicality, and tbh I prefer the look of it to the hatch, whether its necessary or not, I would change it for another estate.

Estate for me, looks better and is more practical than a hatch - but ultimately a personal choice!

Each to their own :dull:

I have just ordered Suberb hatch after much consideration. Hatch and estate are same length.

I have had estates/people cariers for 20 years and wanted a change. I know many think Superb estate is better looking than Hatch, but given recent sales figures hatch will become more exclusive, with IMHO little penalty in flexibility and space, but more refined and quiet ride- simple accoustics with the different types of luggage area covers.

I have never been able to fully utlilise space in estate, even going on holiday the electric ice box needs are spave and you cant stuff luggage in an estate right up to window level. Last estate (Avensis was bought to carry my daughters cello (Avensis hatch was shorter) problem will be solved with ski hatch in Superb. Also Octy and Superb hatches outgun most estates on the market for realistic usable space

Aware that estate should carry price premium at resale, but also has hefty premium at purchace.

In short agree that it is down to personal opinion and circumstances. :giggle:
