Anyone With A Forge Diverter Valve?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Some days ago I replaced for the 2nd time my stock (OEM) diverter valve (DV), this time with an aftermarket one from Forge Motorsport. The type of the Forge DV is: FMDV-006, which they told me is specific for all 1.8T-VAG transverse engines.

Does anyone know if the above one is the appropriate type of Forge's DV? Moreover, as far as I am aware Forge DV's are quite popular in the U.K., and I would expect your opinions about the quality of the product and its long-term efficiency.

My first impressions are that: (1) power delivery is more smooth after shifting, (2) when you lift the right leg from the accelerator pedal and then press it again, the car appears more responsive when compared to the OEM-DV, and (3) the sound at shifting or throttle release (closed air detonation) is not any different than the stock DV (perhaps a bit more sharp).

I would also encourage Briskoda members writing their experiences with other DVs they use.

Thanks.

get an induction kit on and you can really hear the forge one...

dependant on how much boost your running?

I've had the Forge one on mine for the lsat 15 months and about 85,000 miles. No problems so far, although I would recommend that you give it a quick clean every 10,000 miles.

Jon

Like Jon I have had a Forge DV in my RS for about 13 months and I have had no problems with said DV. When I first replaced it I use to turn my ICE off so that I could hear the lovely sound it makes. But now I am pretty use to the sound it makes. However, every now and then I switch my ICE off just to remind me how nice the sound is in tandem with my H&S rear box. All I need now is a Jabba IHI upgrade and maybe a change of airbox and I would never have my stereo on!!

What do you mean with "induction kit"? Air induction kit (replacing the filter box) or something else?

The boost that the ABT chip runs is: 1.2 bar overboost - 1.0 bar constant as we have measured with VAG-COM.

air induction kit...

the more boost you run the louder the dv noise?

I thought the Forge DV was supposed to be silent?

it prob is with the factory air box...

Get the forge 007-p, it's smaller and fits better under the engine cover. Also make sure it's a piston one since the diaphragm ones can break just like the stock ones. You don't really need one btw unless you plan on increasing boost a lot. The forge piston ones can be run reversed for more noise or in the stock orientation for a more silent actuation. It also runs slightly better reversed. In any case, a DV won't add power, so if you don't need it for big boost, I don't recommend it.

As there is virtually no Skoda performance experience in NL, I usually go by what the hordes of Seat boy racers have found.

The majority use the Forge DV for enhanced pick-up and reduced turbo lag (as Speedy says, no power increase as such) while some have the Greddy BOV. With the BOV you do have to tweak it to have it operate as a DV, as it will otherwise fool the MAF sensor. (Apparently, the older AGU engines will work with a BOV, though, as they don't have a MAP, the drive-by-wire engines won't.)

As I understand, the reverse tweak works very well, but only when you keep the pressure at reasonable levels - throw in too much boost and it could lead to the valve opening by itself when it's not supposed to!

A couple of guys are happy about their Forge DVR instead of the 006 or 007. Don't know what difference it makes, though.

What I was wondering - as it seems to be a low-cost mod - does the engine (re)mapping need some (added) adjustment or it is simply a case of plug-and-play?

The forge DV doesn't make the same whooshing sound other DV make but there is a definite difference in sound.

That's exactly what I have experienced so far...;) , plus better throttle response after shifting...

Have you ever regreased your DV if so what grease did you use, I have been told to use Mobile 1 grease.

Des

Chris, seeing as you have an Abt chip comparable to my Oettinger - was the Forge DV a simple plug-and-play job or did it require any alteration to the chip?

Des, I use Castrol BNS grease, its non melting. I'll give you some next time I see you.

Jon

Hi Des,

No I haven't regreased my DV is it something that I should do?

Jon,

The advise about the grease was from my friends AmD (takes pinch of salt), red in colour and synthetic apparently. Whats BNS stand for.

No, its a plug-and-play replacement of the OEM-DV. No-one says that a DV needs a re-map, unless you use a BOV which should in any case be avoided to our engines with the AFM...;)

The 007, thats the baby:)

I have a Forge DVR in mine. (reversed)

Quite correct Mr Disco.

Lloyd, yes you should re-grease, probably every 10-15k. Dead easy, takes about 5 minutes. Take the vacum hose off the top of the DV, unscrew the top, clean up the inside and regrease, screw lid back on, refit vaccum hose. Sorted!

If you leave it to long (ie about 20k) it can stick, you then get a fault code written to the ECU, "17705: Pressure drop between Turbo and throttle valve (check DV!) 35-00". Your dealer will just get the 17705 code which they need to translate, unfortunately, they can't  The symptom is that the engine runs with no turbo or at best intermittent turbo.
