fabia vrs, ibiza cupra tdi, leon 150 or toledo 150 for £5000

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Given the above choice for a £5000 spend which would be most recommended if the end goal was 225bhp?

Cheers

how do you mean if the end goal was 225? ie you wouldnt get a fabia & 225bhp with 5k if you understand my meaning emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Hi no I was meaning £5000 just to buy one of the models above, mods all extra over and above

Would cost about 2.5k to get it to 225bhp in a fabia providing you go to unit18, you will get alot more fabia for 5k though, if u had 6 or so I would say the leon fr tdi

Depends on how much room you need?

On the mod front, all of the cars mentioned except the Fabia already have a front mounted intercooler. You will need a FMIC for 225bhp, so budget wise the fabia will cost more to get to those figures. The Ibiza Cupra TDI comes with better front brakes (AP calipers), whereas the other cars you will need to budget for a brake upgrade to handle the power.

Edit: AP calipers not Brembo, Ooops

Well the others are much bigger. So fabia.

my mates just got the ibiza cupra tdi but they seem expensive compared with a fabia, although as above, they are faster, have better brakes suspension etc etc, wont leak like a fabia, wont knock like a fabia haha...u see my point :)

IMHO the extras on the TDI Cupra Ibiza aren't worth the increased cost of buying and insuring it over buying the a PD130 FR or early "Sport"

Ultimately I think it'd down to how far you want your budget to go and what size car you need.

If you want to spend all your £5k on the car before modding and want something big then go for a 150 Leon or Toledo

If you want to spend all your £5k on the car before modding and want something small then go for a Cupra Ibiza

If you want to have a bit left from your £5k budget after the car buy a Fabia VRS or Ibiza FR

If you want loads left over from your £5k then look for a 02/52/03 plate Ibiza Sport (which became the FR at a later date)

**** although ****

if you want 225bhp you could just save a bit more cash and buy a Leon Cupra R with 225 straight out of the box :)

I think the bigger brakes, bigger turbo, bigger wheels, decent FMIC, ESP, climate control and alarm were worth the extra. I think you'd need a face-lift FR to get 17's and none of the other bits as standard(?). My Ibiza seems to cost me less to insure than my '99 1.8 Focus did... :o

PD160 has AP calipers

yeah all fair points I always forget that the PD160 got som much more than just a bigger turbo than the FR and given the mofiying aim the Cupra does offer a better base to begin with

I forget that the "extras" my car has (312's etc) aren't standard on the Fabia!! :D

Insurance wise I did look at buying a cupra but all the standard spec quotes were double the cost of my the modified spec Fabia

It's a strange old world!

car size is not that critical - but a good base car is - the ibiza cupra has come down in price a fair old bit so look like good value now. Is the turbo thats fitted to the ibiza/leon the one that can be hybridised to make 225 or is a completely different unit required?

Cheers

Not interested in the Golf 150 or Bora 150? Bora apparently has a better chassis than the golf too. My personal preference was the Leon but I couldn't find one for anything like the money of a Fabia.

AP* not Brembo

If size isnt crucial and its performance your after then surely its gotta be 1 of the smaller/lighter cars ie fabia or ibiza or what about a polo tdi sport 130 if you can find 1 ?
