Control/view sky box from another room

Featured Replies

IIRC there are some small devices that you can get to view a sky box in another room but for the life of me I can't remember what they're called?

SWMBO wants a TV in the Kitchen to watch a sky box located in another room.

What kit do I need for this?

Something similar to this.

There are also wireless video senders available... Most of the older/cheaper ones use 2.4GHz and can be affected by wireless routers. When I first had one of these senders it wasn't an issue as i was the only person in the neighbourhood to have wireless, but over time whatever channel I selected i got some level of interference from competing wireless routers.

You can get 5.8GHz ones now, and unless you live near offices it is unlikely that you'll get interference from wireless routers (for the time being anyway) as very few home consumer wireless devices use this frequency (at the moment anyway...)

So (sorry for being a bit slow, it's been a long weekemoticon-0114-dull.gif ) - this device connects via coax from the sky box to the TV in the other room, doing the remote control as well as the audio/video?

That's right.

5.8Ghz isn't a legal frequency to use in the UK though, so you'd not actually be able to use it without risking some trouble.

It is legal but there are conditions, such as it must not interfere with military or weather devices etc. and are limited in power. You also require a license per device but that may only be for the Band C 5GHz devices (which is the band including 5.8GHz)

I believe that if you get a Band A or B 5GHz device you don't need the license... So if the video sender is Band A or B (5.1 to 5.3GHz or 5.4 to 5.7 GHz) then you'd be ok
