Snow Chains for Octavia Scout

Featured Replies

Okay here goes, I know that there has been loads written about snow tyres and chains for Octavia Scouts. Until now most of the snow chain retaillers have said that 'normal' chains couldn't be fitted to Scouts only the Maggi Trak / Rud matic type. Yesterday I was on the rofbox comapny website and when I searched their database it specifcally mentioned the Scout and tyre size 225 50 17 and low and behold it came up with several 'normal' chain options.

So has anyone fitted normal chains to ther Scout recently and if so which make model dd you go for?

I should say that my Scout is a 60 plate desel model.

All information gratefully received.

Why would you need chains when you have a 4x4??? get a good set of winter tyres on and bobs your auntie

I have Skoda original chains that fit to 16'' and 17'' rims. I had them on only once and they were very easy to put on and take off on 16" winter rims that i have.

On the German Skoda forum there was one daring person who tried 9 mm traditional chains on his Scout (225/50/17), when hitting a severe bump the chain has hit the suspension. Damage unknown. Please be aware that a car might become unsteerable if the chain hits the suspension, causing the wheel to block.

I use the Maggi Trak 213 and I am very happy with them. Used them once.

For going downhill on an icy road ;) Downhill a 4x4 has become equal in braking power to a 2x2.

I did some tests with my Scout with winter tyres in the Alps can could drive up and down snowy hills without chains. It is amazing!

SNOW CHAINS are NOT legal in the UK.

Not true.

It is legal to use snow chains in the UK, however, if you allow them to cause damage to the road surface you can be prosecuted...

I've seen those crazy 2 wheel drive dirt bikes but at the rate I fall off I reckon I'd be safer in a car (4x4 preferable, but think you mean 4X2). ;)

You are right, 4x2
