VRS not ment for this weather!

Featured Replies

Parked the car at the girlfriends on friday and when i got up saturday it had been snowing. So i did what i had to do by foot and left the car where it was. The car is parked on a bit of a hill along with lots of other cars so thought id better not try and move it.

Ive got to do a bit of shopping today because im going to new york next saturday :) and im away at york till friday, so i thought id have a go at getting the car out. First thing i did was bang the heaters on of course then i reached for the revo sps and set it to stock.

Tried to pull off in first and it was spinning, so i slid back to the start and selected second, easing off and gently on the revs but the asr was kicking in and i was going no were :(

So ive decided to leave it again as ive looked at the tyres and there starting to shred :o and i cant afford winter tyres at the minute. The ones ive got on are nearly new conti's.

Looks like no work for me tomorrow unless i can get a lift off my mate in his disco

So the fabia vrs, good alrounder but its snow joke in this weather

Can't wait for some snow to try my winter wheels! Weirdly i am going to New York on Sat!

Even 'new tyres' wont grip...The rubber goes hard and the tread pattern wont grip snow

Nice one mate! who you flying with? would be funny if were on the same flight!

Gonna have another go at moving the car later, should be fun :giggle:

Would it help if i let some air out of the tyres? just a thought.

try turning off the traction control so you can control the spinning yourself and not the computer. if that still dont help can you not try and find some sand or grit to get you started.

slightly harsh to say the fabia is rubbish in the snow if your parked on a hill to be fair. I parked at the girlfriends house the other night out in the sticks and had 4/6 inch of snow on mine when i was up fro work at 4.30 am the next morning. I had no problems getting to work in my vrs.

Yes but its not just snow, its frozen snow! the grit bin at the end of the street is empty

And there are cars parked all over otherwise id get it out, just dont want to cause any damage. Ive tried it with the asr both on and off. Im gonna try reversing around the cresent onto the main road, were there is no snow.

And i never said its rubbish, its just not practical for this weather. Too much torque and not alot of grip, but i didnt buy the car for the snow so i aint complaining cos i love it in other weather condition

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Get a couple of your mates to go and help you with pushing it if you need that. Whatever you decide to do, get on with it while it's still light and before the temperature drops again. Good luck

Get a spade to make a clear path and get some grit, or some old carpet or car mats even cardboard.

Manchester isnow -5 degress but yet no snow. I want it to snow but then I dont because of getting stranded I would hate to abandon the car because its stuck

Continental Flight 27 from Birmingham Sat morning - how about you?

I've had no problems with getting about on the snow in my vrs and thats with 17's on, had to dig a bit of snow out the way earlier as the car was basically snowed in and got moving no probs :)

Well i've just had a 28hr stint in my Fabia.

Drove Edinburgh - Mansfield to be mapped at Shark yesterday morning, then got stuck at Alnwick lastnight on the way home, i finally got home at 10am this morning:(

Fabia didnt fare well in the snow (Toyos) but to be fair the snow was thick, plus my car was getting beached a bit, even managed to lose half my splitter:(

It's not the car that's crap in the snow, it's the fact that none of you (and myself included before you think i'm trying to say i'm any different) have the right tyres on for driving in the snow! it's always going to be made easier with snow tyres. It's like any other fwd car in the snow imo. just do what you can and try to keep rolling without spinning up!

Went back up for the car earlier and luckly the one infront of me had moved ( a big stupid 4 x 4 thing!) so i had a good run up to get it in the road.

Turned the asr off (thanks for the advice guys) selected 2nd and went for it. I had to turn the steering wheel from side to side to get traction and kept pumping the accelerator but i was out

A nice trip from derby to york tomorrow night for me, so hopefully it will be a little clearer. If i think ive got it bad, im following my mate in his nissan 350z, 300bhp+ going through the rears :o

Thanks for all the advice and encoragement people, thats what makes this site what it is

Always amazes me how some folk absolutely leather the throttle trying to become unstuck in snow or mud.

Watching a bloke in a Golf yesterday in an icy car park up in the hills of N.Wales doing just that.

Utterley pointless.

Me? Not being big headed, Just common sense.I just let the car drive itself out on tickover, no fuss, no drama

You too - the weather is better there!

Past few years of snow i`v had no issues getting to and from work. Even when I got there and we wasnt running any buses. The number of people you see who clearly have no idea how to drive in the snow is funny.

Especially on ice when you watch them stamp on the brakes with maximum pressure and try turning at the same time.

Hands on ears, mouth wide open in aghast and wait for the resounding crack of alloy against kerb stone. :wall:
