Recommended MP3 HU?

Featured Replies

Looking to fit a headunit that'll play MP3s when I get a Furby. I was thinking of the Pioneer DEH-P77 but they screen doesn't look very big, for displaying track titles etc.

Any recommendations? Does anyone use this Pioneer? How do they find it? Top budget is

Well the P77 is

Its a DEH-8400MP with the motorised screen that flips down and there's the main panel with a screen that plays graphix and stuff. I paid a little too much for it, but it decided to stop motoring the flip panel, then it died... So hoping Pioneer will replace the belt or whatever needs replacing and get it back to me in good order. ;)

Not a fan of Kenwood TBH - don't like their design. Yeah, the P77 is quite retro - aluminium, white read-out display. If you can give me some Alpine models, I'll take a look.

Cheers

heres my serious reply

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default.php?cPath=3&&received_mfg=0:11+ any of them really mate... the reto one you are talking about is sweet my mate has one and thats the only reason i went for alpine over the P77 wanted something diffrent and even tho they both sound amazing im glad i went for my alpine...its the 9812R ...only two things wrong with the P77 its not motorised... seems cheap on a relativly expensive HU and there lying to you when they say its a 6Volt pre out... the equivelent alpine hu have more fiddle setting like Time Delay the P77 on has baisc trebble and bass settings the alpine has a bulit in EQ taht allows you to set the Frequecys and also has a funky function called MX sort of like an advanced LOUD button with 3 diffrent setting so even the low quality MP3 can be inhanced.. its a nightmare to set up but once done my god it does sound good...

That does surprise me a bit. Are you saying bengie that even after experiencing a bit of time listening to the 77 you reckon the kenwoods sound better at a similar price point?

I have yet to fault the deh-p77mp in terms of sound quality - it more than delivers imho. Of course, the sound quality is offset by the "limited" display and number of buttons. :)

On the other hand, the Alpine 9812/3/5 are sweet head units although I can't say from experience. I think the 9813 and 9815 are identical inside and the 9815 is only different thanks to its bigger LCD.

i have the 9815RB(i think), very nice unit indeed. the only place i have really heard the 77 is swmbo's shed that has cack speakers but yeah, i do prefer the kenwoods but the problem is the last kenwood i used was the one i chopped in for my sat nav which was a nice top end

The Kenwood FP Mask units have a big display as all the buttons are on the fold down part.

The KDC-W7027 has all the toys with a standard screen, retails at

here ya go, a 9815RB in place and also without the face plate and using the additional black surround opposed to the standard silver one so it doesn't stand out as much

Just found this cracking deal on the Kenwood W7027.

the kenwood i had his top line thiingy just before they went funny looking like that one, it looked more like this

Looks very much like the M907 or one of that range. I think these are being sold off at around

One other thing about the Kenwood. I've just been on their website looking at the 7027 in more detail and I'm liking it, but they list it as having a "Theft Deterrent Faceplate". Does that mean that the face doesn't come off? If that's right then I'm a bit wary as I had a Sony a few years back like that. Problem seemed to be that the thief new about it too and it disappeared :(

What about the Alpine, does that have a removable face? I'm pretty sure the Pioneer P77 does.

Thanks guys.

When you turn the W7027 off or turn the ignition off, the bottom section comes up so it's 90 degrees to the Head unit. It then waits a while for you to slide off the very back piece of the control section and then continues to fold up. You take away with you the back of the button section and Kenwood supply a small carry case.

With the back left on all you see when you look in the car is a black plastic block. When you take the the back section off you are left with a black block with a few contacts with a small flashing LED.

If you get it pinched within 12 months of purchase and you have the anti-theft panel Kenwood will replace your head unit free of charge.

That's handy to know, thanks Lee. Any chance of any pics, would be appreciated, as none of this explained on the Kenwood site.

That's interesting regarding Kenwood's replacement policy but I'd possibly prefer the piece of mind that nothing's making my car stand out and also avoiding all the hassle of sorting out the replacement HU and glass etc. I've been there once and don't particularly want to go through it again.

Cheers, Steve

I got one of these about 5 months ago

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t12747-new-cd-player---what-do-you-all-think.html

It gives very good sound looks good in the car, you can chage the colour to any colour by adjusting RGB.... It has front rear and sub line out with x-over built in.. and a line in for that car computer or PS2 project... overall I link it and it was

You also get two sets of RCA outs and one input as well as onboard crossovers and the like. Two outputs for changers, output for external displays and controls as well as output for interfacing with GSM phones.

Thanks Lee, that's great. Cheers for doing that. Kenwood looks a strong contender, especially as I've just seen it on CAD for
