Wipers have a life of their own.

Featured Replies

Anyone had this problem with their Fabia? My front wipers keep spontaneously turning themselves on, even though the switch is definitely in the 'off' position. They will eventually stop but this can take some time. Strangely, briefly turning on the rear wiper is a reliable way of stopping the front wipers when they get into thie state. I've put up with this for a few months but if no-one has any ideas i'll have to do battle with my local Skoda service centre. Thanks in advance, Mark.

I posted this last year but had no replies:

Last year, my garage did some diagnostics and concluded the issue was probably the electronic wiper control unit. As a replacement is £250 I decided to live with the problem.

This only seems to be an issue when it gets cold, so just last week I finally had the wiper control unit replaced. The problem is much better, but I still get occasional instances of the wipers coming on. So i'm rather cross at Skoda service as my £250 outlay has not totally solved the problem and i'm not convinced the unit was faulty.

My feeling is the problem is caused by a corroded or just a poorly mating connector somewhere. I guess some connectors were reseated when the part was changed and this is what helped the problem. Also I replaced my battery last year which helped reduce the instances of false wiper triggering.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm resigned to putting up with this.

Faulty stalks?

Stands to reason that if moving the stalk cures the issue, the fault lays there.

Id say switch tbh.
