Steering wheel not straight?

Featured Replies

I noticed today that my steering wheel isn't in the centre position when I'm driving straight ahead.

It's pointed slightly left and, obviously, if I put it in the centre I start to head for the right hand side!

Is this a warranty job, tracking/geometry or 'normal-for-octavia'?

Thanks!

steering needs alignment. Mine is the same from the factory when I bought it new.

dealer should sort it out but make sure they don't screw up the tyre alignment..

personally I've just accepted it as the dealer may make things worse..

I had this. It's not the same as wheel alignment, my wheels were spot on but the steering wheel was still 5deg out.

I mentioned it as "off centre" steering when the car went in for a service.

It came out fixed without a mention of what was done or any charge.

I was panicking as I though clobbering a couple of large potholes had borked the suspension

Car in for service yesterday & got mine "straightened". Alignment apparently. Dead on now!

Mine was the same from new, have had the tracking/alignment looked at but not that. Due for 1st service next week so will see if they do anything about it then!

Mine did that after Mitchell Skoda "fixed" my misalignment.

the rear wheels were a mile out meaning that in order to travel in a straight line, I always had to have a steering input there fore a non centred steering wheel.

A good independent sorted in out - Nigel Lang's in Bolton. They had much better kit and people than most if not all of the dealers.

Had the same issue when I first got my car - sorted with a new set of front tyres and tracking adjustment.

I noticed today that my steering wheel isn't in the centre position when I'm driving straight ahead.

Think a few have had this problem in the current snow!

Just spoke to the dealer and they say any adjustment isn't covered under warranty.

It's fairly obviously offset and I don't believe I wouldn't have noticed it in the 3 months I've had the car so I think it's new. I haven't hit anything or had anything adjusted recently.

According to the Skoda Warranty terms and Conditions the following applies, so if your car is less than 6500 miles/6 months old they should check and adjust the steering geometry...

Mechanical adjustments after six months or 6,500 miles

are also excluded from warranty cover such as:

• Adjustments to doors, flaps, boot lids, bonnets, sunroof

• Brake adjustment

• Clutch adjustment

• V belt adjustment

• Ignition adjustment

• Headlight adjustment

• Steering geometry adjustments

• Wheel balancing

The car is new to me, not new :)

it has 40k miles on now.

I had this earlier this year. Car pulled to the left when wheel was straight. Dealer was ****e and denied there was any issue despite me taking the mechanic out and showing him several times! Took it to a local specialist who did a laser alignment and sorted it in 15 minutes for £10. Refuse to go to the dealer now (Exeter).

I had the same issue. The steering wheel was a bit to the right side and the car itself pushed to the right.

If I held the wheel it went straight.

At the dealer where I bought the car, they did a tire change from left to right and back to front. At first it got worse. They did a wheel aligment but nothing.

I went to another dealer and there seen with my own eyes another new aligment and some values where all wrong, the steering wheel was put straight but at the end it still pulled to the right.

They took 4 new wheels from a vw Golf estate and my Octavia went straight, good news.

Soo what they did was rotate each tire 45-90º and guess what, now goes straight.

Now others over here have the same problem, including VW and some Audi owners.

Funny is that most Octavias (99%) that show this fault have Bridgestone Turanza E300 tires, and they are very noisy.
