Emergency! Wife stuck 120 miles away and fuel cap wont open on VRS

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

The wife is in a bit of a mare tonight.....I can get her out of the snow easy peasy. But wth do i do about the fuel cap???

It wont open because she thinks its "frozen" shut.....

I did a search and it seems it could have something to do with a bowden cable???

Anyone have a step by step guide on a fix...

Really sorry for the post...but i must rush off...

So the problem with the Bowden only happens when it wont CLOSE shut???

Makes sense. More than likely the cold weather then IMHO...

However taking out the trim might lead you to being able to release it - if it's not just frozen shut.

Here's a photo from the boot side - I'd been hoping the catch might be visible but it isn't - however assuming the wire's broken - and that it's not broken at the filler end, pulling the cable outer might release the flap. More tricky if it's broken off at the flap end...

had this happen when someone leant against the flap and it got pushed in too far.

resolved by using a piece of packing strap fed behind the flap, across the top and down as far as it will go, so you can tug both ends.

get someone to pull the lever and then gently give the flap a tug.

i know it might not be the same cause but reckon the result will be the same??

good luck chap
