Columbus not downloading new map

Featured Replies

I was sent the new map with 7 digit post codes on, inserted it but it does not download, I tried a CD and a DVD just to make sure the drive is working what could be wrong???

On holding the system button in the radio part comes up, but nothing else like map version (secret Menu)

Put the DVD on and unless it's faulty it will take 2-3 minutes and then pop up a notification to Save or save temporary, press Save and it will take up to 20+ minutes to copy, you will hear the dvd spinning.

I just did it a few days ago with v7

Patience is required - don't be too hasty in thinking it's not doing anything

No notification showing, I put it in at Newcastle airport this morning and due to the conditions it took 2 hours to get back to the Borders still nothing, would the type of CD have anything to do with it, Its an Asda one, or even though its playing other media could the lazer need cleaning if so how do you do this

Is the actual download valid? I'm guessing it's not a pukka copy from a Skoda dealer if you're talking about Asda CDs... Shouldn't it be a DVD for the maps anyway?

No idea about the difference between CD and DVD they both look the same to me yes its a copy but a copy that worked for the person who kindly sent it to me

CD holds about 700mb of data (give or take)

DVD holds about 4.6gb of data (give or take)

Sounds like a cheap DVD that is corrupt.

Copy the image and re-burn to a DVD ( use a good quality one Maxell )or similar, supermarket ones are like supermarket petrol.....not great

The disc you have is probably from the same kind chap who sent it to me, he had a batch of faulty discs, if you look at the disc read surface it is mottled as if it has been rubbing on something, it is good enough to copy an image and re-burn it though, I did it and it worked a treat, also make sure that the car is running when you are loading it, just on the ignition and it would not complete the load sequence, it got to 95% then started again. any problems drop me a line and I would be more than happy to help!

Thanks for that Mike link received, I am certain though there is a firmware update that stops the battery drain that I don't have, so you can load new maps, I don't know if it was Carl or Stew that posted it

DVD media is it Asda or Sony don't matter. I used Verbatim and have no problem. You either have a badly copied/burened dvd image or a damaged dvd.

Also as Mike said check if v7 maps need an updated Firmware compared to the one you have.

If you have the image on your PC, burn it slowly at 4x, not at max speed. If not check does the DVD open in your computer and see what files are listed i.e so to make sure it can be read.

Agree with you guys who recommend higher quality media.

My unit was really fussy and only took the download for a high quality disc.

Recommend that you burn your copy onto a really good quality disc and then it should take about 30mins or so

Good luck

At the moment I have map version 6.3 but can no longer get system version to show?? it only goes to the 1st screen

No idea about the difference between CD and DVD they both look the same to me

I'm speechless B)

I had an issue loading the V7 map disk I received, in the end I took a copy burnt at 4x speed onto a branded DVD-R. This copied disk loaded perfectly onto my columbus at the first attempt, the original for some reason kept on coming up with disk errors at about 25% or would not copy at all.

You can see where your copy has got up to whilst its writing to the HD by pressing the eject button, and you'll get a window open with a status bar along the bottom. The maps take about 45mins to copy onto the HD.

Hi guys, just a quick question related to this thread. What is the deal with map updates? Do you get updates included for a period of time or do have to purchase any updates? Where do you get the updates from?

Thanks, I am supposed to collect my new car tomorrow, been waiting since July 24th. I should've collected yesterday but the technician doing the PDI went sick! (apparently)

I'd also be interested to know where you guys are getting these update disks from? Are you downloading them from the web? If so can someone kindly send me the link for a reliable source pretty please.

Me too, please

or if anyone is willing to lend me their copy I'd be happy to supply some beer tokens ;)
