Hehehe... a Neanderthal I am. (See it is the archaic spelling of Welsh I'm using!) But still, oh dear. I love Wales. And as such I should not offend its people. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Apologies! hehehe

I am guessing that annoys the Welsh as much as people who say "the Scotch", and yes it does happen.

Johan, how accurate are you finding your Maxidot? Mine is consistently reading too optimistic by 10-12%.

I have no idea. Since fitting the smaller winter wheels it will be even further out. And to be honest it won't prolong my life by anything if I was to know it was out by 2,3456734%. So I'm not going to work it out either! emoticon-0140-rofl.gif I'll be happy if the Maxidot says something that starts with a 4 and I'll be unhappy if it starts with a 2 or a 1. That is all I need to know.

Off topic slightly but the word " Welch" was used by 2 now amalgamated Regiments in the British Army - the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Welch Regiment so perhaps not quite so archaic seeing as it lasted until 2006

[And we complained about that too!!

At least "The Scotch" can be quaffed, and thereby enjoyed by The Scots.

I dunno what The Welch can have done to it/them........ Perhaps renege on something? (after all Taffy was a Welshman Taffy had some teeth - or something very similar............)

I know what you are saying but if your Maxidot reads 42mpg but the reality is 34mpg then that is not really a thumbs up after all.

True, but relatively speaking it works out the same. If 42 = 34 and I deem it good then 24 = 12 is bad and I will still know what is what. I will work it out at some point truth be told and make sure there is nothing hugely wrong with the car but if it is roughly correct and does not hurt my wallet, I'm just going to live by what the Maxidot says.

Well I found that site when I saw people on here used it in their signatures. And it is German and you can set it to US or Imperial - which I would presume means us!

Yes Imperial is us brits....umm. Smacks of Queen Vic & the empireemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Well my Diesel 140 DSG fuel consumption according to the maxidot for my trip up to Scotland was 42.9, which was reasonable considering the journey conditions and the average speed of 60mph.

I have been trying to brim to brim the tank, but it is hard to see at night, not sure exactly how much I'm putting in, but it would appear to be able to cover around 600 miles on a tank full on a long journey, but for safety reasons I filled up when it dropped to 1/4 tank left.

I have been instructed by Freshacre to update myself on the Yeti!!!

I swapped a V6 Superb TD (about 45mpg average) for a new manual Yeti TD where I experienced substantial drop in fuel economy.

My new Freelander TD Auto is averaging about 30 mpg. It is quite noticeable that whilst the Superb on a motorway was ticking over and showing very low consumption at 70 mph on motorway driving the Freelander is frequently using much more fuel (particularly up hill)

Possibly drag coefficient is a major cause of fuel economy differences between engines of similar power in saloon/estate versions as compared with SUV's

Once one drops to 40-50 mph the fuel consumption improves dramatically!!

OTH I think the DSGs fitted to the Skoda range should be more fuel efficient than the units fitted to the Freelander (loses about 5mpg in comparison with manual version)

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year

From the Traitor in the Camp :)

Just over 42 MPG on a long run and an average of around 35 MPG for the diesel DSG Yeti is disappointing! :(

This makes me seriously consider getting a 1.2 DSG and then swap the engine with a 1.8 (as somebody on this forum suggested) as the fuel economy won't be much worse and petrol 1.8 litre engine will be much nicer to drive...especially when not having to worry about winter warm up times and the rubbish DFP.

Why is the heated windscreen not available for the 1.2 Yeti?

SUK is a pain: no sunroof, no heated windscreen on a 1.2 and no 1.8 DSG!

Diesel 4x4 CR140(very ish) DSG

I went to Castle Coombe yesterday. Uneventful trip there and back. I sat on the motorway at about 62-64mph. Around Castle Coombe I was driving it flat out emoticon-0140-rofl.gif.

The average there was 51mpg. Whilst at, and driving round Castle Coombe track, was 15mpg. Trip back was 46mpg.

Overall for the whole trip was 43.1mpg. The maxidot recorded 43.6mpg. Average speed was 49mph. Happy bunny emoticon-0100-smile.gif

That makes a pleasant change from the previous tankful which was 35.4mpg at an average speed of 17mpg, which was all around south London in rush hour and well as during the day.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

I was much happier with these figures. There was one journey recently where the car averaged 62mpg. It journey was only about 5 miles, it was pretty flat and the speed limit was 30mph. Pretty impressive for a diesel automatic.......

Looks like with better weather is making a big difference to the fuel economy.

Don't remind me! But with the correct sized wheels I knew it would happen. And I did not drive to Castle Combe at 64! I did about 80 and [blush] went way faster going back home...

Maxidot showed 42 average going there, the track got me too excited and I zeroed it when I went on but forgot to check it once out!

Those are pretty good figure but as I have often said (to myself) 'it ain't what you drive, but the way that you drive it'! (both in terms of performance and fuel economy).

I find that any steady speed driving up to 60 - 65mpg does wonders for fuel consumption but urban driving and anything over 70 mpg crucifies the consumption in Kevin. Overall it all boils down to driving style, weight and aerodynamic.

I generally do a fair bit of urban driving (bit more than usual in recent weeks) and anything else is done 'briskly' with my overall consumption in my signature below.

PS> Good to hear you enjoyed the track day. How are your brakes and tyres?

The tyres are fine....no ill effects and the brakes worked fine on the day, but I guess the bigger brakes would helpemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Hi Johann

I see your fuel consumption has improved a little after your trip away.....

Hi Johann

I see your fuel consumption has improved a little after your trip away.....

Oh yes. It sure did. Short one mile trips (in London) does my consumption no good.

The 162 miles to Yorkshire gave 45.7mpg average, the 133 miles to Aviemore from Edinburgh gave 41,6mpg (more hills), the 170mile trip around Loch Ness from Aviemore via Inverness gave 45.7mpg and the 226 miles from the Yorkshire Dales to London gave 42,1mpg - all Maxidot. (The other trips I forgot to take pics of and the blasted thing resets all the time if you forget!) This is two up, outer two rear seats left at home and the car packed to just above the window line! Stuck to speed limit as indicated on dash and not real sat-nav speed - so mostly at 56mph or so in 60 zones and 67 or so in 70 zones. So all in all I'm very happy.

That seems about right for those sorts of speeds, echo's my experience as well. True figures likely to be about 8-10% less in my experience, hence why I had my Maxidot re-calibrated.

I was getting about 20mpg around London yesterday, too much idling and not enough movement. So I employ the start stop technology supplied with my car. When stopped for a while I will turn off the engineemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

:giggle: :giggle: Love that. So easy. Just like switching the lights on from Auto in the fog. Not rocket science is it?!

On the Loch Ness round trip the Maxidot had showed 54mpg average (level 50mph roads and low traffic levels) but then the trip up the mountain put paid to that low average!

Johann, you wrote "outer two rear seats left at home".

Does this mean you left the centre seat in place, please?

If so, may I ask why?

Please do NOT answer if the questions are too personal!
