Yes - BMM is the PD unit - the new engine code is somthing like CBAB for common rail, its the same as the one used in the Yeti. Naughty dealer. On the other hand a lot of people like the torque of the pD.

Well bugger me!! :wonder:

I have to admit doubts had entered my mind when everyone was saying how smooth the CR engine was...mine never seemed especially smooth.

I still love the car so I'm not over-concerned. Will just try the CR engine in my next Scout! ;)

If I can help with figures feel free to drop me an email and I'll do what I can to supply you a new Scout!

  • 10 months later...

I have the CR TDI Scout, but commute across the pennines every day, averaging 35k miles per year. Its a pretty arduous drive IE all hills, country lanes, traffic, lorries etc etc, and I am averaging about 39mpg too.

I had it remapped the other week, which has seen the fuel economy rise by a couple of MPG, and now produces just shy of 180PS so overtakes are possible too!

Love my Scout!! :)

Hi just about to buy a scout..... any ideas on where to get a remap done.

Thanks

Shark Performance in Mansfield is a popular choice.

It's worth giving JKM Performance a call if you are anywhere near Portsmouth. The CR engines have an encrypted ECU which is more difficult to remap than older types. There is a great thread on the Yeti forum by Rockhopper which describes the process.

You could try Jabbasport, seem to know what they are doing

Well its been a long time but Im coming back to Skoda. :)

Im considering an Octavia scout on a PCP. I do around 15000 miles a year and live in a rural area. I looked at full on 4x4 SUV's and they were either to expensive or I did not like them! After all the snow in the last two years the scout appears to be my answer.

Im torn between the TDI 140 and the 1.8Tsi. I fancy the 1.8 for a change having spent the last 6 years owning diesels. However what's the average fuel economy like on the 1.8? Advice and thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Having driven both petrol and PD/CR diesel Skodas I must admit I've preferred the diesel units for their torque to suit my driving style. The 1.8 unit is good but I also found there to be a more marked difference in the MPG in the petrol, i.e between book figure and day to day reality figure. The diesel units are far closer to the book figure.

I've had my CR Scout for 12 months now and covered just over 11.5K miles. I too live in the Peak District hills so a lot of my motoring is up and down hills on single track roads etc. I also have occasional big trips to Scotland and regualr ones to the Lakes and Wales. My computer long term avearge mpg is around 48 which I am more than pleased with compared to my old Mark 1 remapped 4x4 estate, which gave about 28mpg. I love the car, it's really smooth and hard to know you are driving a diesel sometimes. There is bags of room for climbing gear, bikes etc. in the back. I haven't driven the TSI to compare and went for the diesel for the fuel economy. It's excellent in the snow with winter tyres on too.
