Stock Felicia?

Featured Replies

Hi fellow Briskodians,

Got a Felicia 1.3LXi Plus and want to modify it starting with the performance. Any ideas on where to start to increase the power?

Cheers

get the 1.6??????

without spending silly money, you would be looking at the air filter, exhaust and chipping, but you will still be getting only 10-15% increase for all that money spent. For the serious increases in a non turbo engine you will be looking at port polishing, reprofiled cams, skimming the cylinder head, etc.

You would do better to save the money and get a Tdi Fabia instead and just chip it, especially as it can handle over 90mph (on a private road) without the steering getting floaty, unlike the Felicias that I have drove over the years.

These engines are very tunable forget the 1.6, its no flyer anyway

it depends on if you have the mpi or spi, either way start with the basics

Full free flow filter, ditch the original airbox, get a decat section made up for the exhaust when the exhaust rots out have the centre box replaced with a section of pipe, and repalce the rear box with a decent aftermarket one - janspeed or something. this alone will free up decent power.

next stage, an MPI head if its SPI, prefereable to get it worked over by someone who knows what they are doing. A cam shaft is a good idea, but will need to get the fueling altered at the same time. or you could go extreme :-

You can get the long stroke crank and pistons to get it up to 1500cc, these engines once enlarged and ECU mapped to suit are good for 140hp. this is basically as per felicia 1500 cc kit car engine.

Thanks for the great tips guys. I never knew you could get so much power out of the felicia engine. hopefully i will be able to get the project started as soon as i save up some money.

I know of someone with a 1300 Estelle I think from memory it was making 150hp, and that was how it came from the factory :)

Personally I think the 1.6 Polo engine is a stormer in the Felicia, try it in a pick up, thats really funny.

Lots of tuning stuff for the 1.6, my mate is running one with a G40 charger on it, pretty nifty.

Is the 1.6 polo engine a straight fit?

Cool, loads of info there on tuning a 1300 8v engine. Nice !

Will the G40 engine fit, does anyone know ??

You can get any engine to fit! If you have the Know How!!! Skoda UK even fitted a 2.8VR6 motor into a Felicia a few years back!!

The G40 engine wont drop in. We know this as the 1.6 AEE engine fits in on the Skoda gearbox which is also fitted to the MK4 Polo. Having talked to alot of Polo boys the G40 engine wont fit in a MK4 Polo.

No reason why a 1.4 16v wouldnt fit though.

Seen a Couple of MK4 Polo's with G40 motors in them..........There were 2 at Inters this year!

I suppose it depends on the term 'drop in'.

I'm told a Vrs engine just "drops in" to a tdi furby ;)

Exactly

don't think any engine conversions are drop in these days! Even swapping a 8v for a 16v in a Mk2 Golf ain't really Drop in!

Nice one guys !

Im Ok with changing the gearbox aswell. I wasnt sure if the engine and G/box mounts would line up or if id need to get some fabricated ?

I was hoping to get hold of a G40 rear end write off and then be able to use the engine , G/box and driveshafts ?

Hows your Skoda coming along ? any new mods or pics ??

The Polo gear box and shafts are different so I think a new mount would be needed. Plus I think the G40 uses three mounts with one up front, the Felicia doesnt so that would need to be fabricated.

:( I was gutted when i first asked this question myself, everyone said buy something else or put up with it, and after further enquiries i ended up saying the same thing myself. In my oppinion the felicia would take to much work. Might as well save your money up and buy something more sporty. It would be cheaper in the long run. Felicia was never intended to be a drivers car. You would need to make MAJOR revisions to the suspension, wheels/tyres, steering, brakes, to make fun of all the extra power. And you could probably still have more fun in an old mk2 golf GTi once you finished :)

Yeah tell me about it, Im pretty gutted to find out that the G40 wont fit. I still think though that if people can fit the G40 lump to a MK4 polo, you must be able to do the same with the felicia. What replies and info did you get when you looked into it ??

I spoke to Vibra-technics about the engine mounts and found out that they can supply some custom engine mounts for around

Which is the more tunable engine ?? The 1300 or the 1600 engine ? And which has more available parts ?

I would be looking to carry out head work and cams etc .
