No rear washer

Featured Replies

The rear washer motor wirrs away but no liquid comes out of the jet. Ive taken off the panel in the tailgate - to see if the hose had popped off

(like someone on here suggested)... but its still in place

Are there any other places the washer piping could pop off? My fear is that its accumulating water somewhere I dont know about... :S

And due to the winter weather the ground is constantly wet - so I cant even see if makes a puddle under the car somewhere.

is it an estate car? they have a join under the cd player. could it not be frozen

There is a joint somewhere on the left hand side of the boot behind the trim, above where the CD player sits. I think it is in where the wiring harness runs up the "C" pillar.

I take it you have used a pin to unblock the jets?

The rear jets get clogged up easier than the fronts for some reason. Especially in this type of weather

Try that first

I have never seen the rear jet get blocked on mine (estate). Either the liquid in the pipe freezes, the jet freezes, or the pipe joint near to the CD changer in the boot pops apart.

The rear washer on our Toyota didn't work. I pulled the pipe off the jet and water came out so I knew the jet was blocked. Unplugged it with a pin and it worked fine. Work your way back along the pipework till you find water.

jet gets blocked, jet freezes same thing in principal as water is not coming out of it.

I have had a lot of cars where jets get blocked, either due to lime scale due to water in the pipe not being used on a regular basis to keep flow going, or crud from the water bottle. The Octy rear wiper uses 2 jet's and a lot of octy's i have seen only squirt through one at the best of times.

Mine popped off at the washer bottle, and had to unblock the jets aswell. Oh and only one jet works the other just dribbles :wonder:

That must be a difference between the estate and the hatch. On my estate, there is one jet in the high-level brake light.

I always fill my water bottle with water which has been though the filter jug in the kitchen to help reduce the crud in the water, and during the summer I sometimes flush out my tank with a hosepipe as it seems to get a layer of stuck inside it - not sure what causes that.

Ah i see, that is different to the hatch, as the hatch has the jets externally on the wiper arm(with some pipping also exposed to the elements)

Its a 2004 hatch, but I'll get a pin to check its not blocked first.

ta for the suggestions!

My rear washer don't work either and it didn't work before all bad weather started but i put it down to jets been blocked,

I took boot panel off and disconnected pipe and operated washer pump, nothing,

found join in boot, it is just behind where cd player is top of wheel arch liner diconnected it there, operated washer pump, nothing

took pipe off under bonnet that connects just round side of washer bottle and operated again and got soaked,

I can blow back to front with airline and it will bubble in washer bottle so am guessing my pipe is trapped somewhere in car if air can get through it but water carn't unless there is another join anywhere i can try???

I think there is a join up in the headlining somewhere, as the pipe come up through the cd side of the boot into the rear pillar and up through the roof.

Mine is leaking at the bottle, ive noticed now if i push it to wash the rear window it'll dribble a really tiny streak of pee below the windscreen and gush out of the washer bottle lol

The cold weather could of caused the crack? or made it worse.

Do we know if there is a join up front anywhere, if i nearside kick panel back under glove box i can see washer pipe disappear up behind glovebox somewhere is there another join where it comes through bulkhead somewhere, its a pain with it running in wiring harness everywhere

Maybe the pump in your case is broken...as your able to blow air back. IIRC seperate one for front and rear. Maybe dirt in it?

Not owning an Octavia and not fully versed in your washer pipe system,

I can only compare it to my Fabia VRS.

If your washer pump can be heard, thats good, assuming water reservoir is full.

Does your front washers work? yes ? thats good.

Washer pipe to the rear, goes through the fire wall/ bulk head in engine compartment on the right-side, looking in, to the back.

Here (on my car) is a washer-pipe connection that pops apart, and washer water tracks could be seen trickling downwards.

With the water leakage you will do plenty of washer pumping and lots of investigating

around your car, looking for tell-tale signs of water.

A possible kinked or trapped washer pipe won't help??

Its not leaking water into car anywhere i can see anyway and its not leaking onto floor, if you disconnect pipe on waher pump and operate it you get drowned so its working okay,

If i blow it out with airline then operate pump you can hear it pumping then after a couple of seconds pump noise changes like pipe blocked up front somewhere, i just carn't find where,

think ill take glove box out of see if i can see another join anywhere behind it

The problem we have is that the pipe has got disconnected at the water bottle and we cannot find the loose pipe. Anyone know where the pipe is routed in the engin bay? See photo here

had a golf that the rear washer didnt work but made noise wasnt until i noticed roof lining lookod damp that i found problem was a join up there. when you do find it cut pipe back a little or else it will happen again.

The pipe will be behind the washer bottle, quite hard to find without moving it

There's two pipes and two motors, when my pipe popped off the only way of putting it back on was to loosen the washer bottle and move it so i could put my hand behind it and push the pipe back on.

I've twice had rear wash failure. The first time was a pipe split somewhere behind the plastic on the tailgate. It was obvious really as my boot was wet and when the tailgate was opened, water dripped from it. The next time it stopped working, I checked the previous repair first but it wasn't that. I got a friend to check to see if the level in the wash bottle was going down when I pressed the rear wash lever. The level was going down so I knew the water was being pumped. I looked in the boot in the spare wheel well and it had loads of water in there. The pipe had split this time somewhere above the cd auto changer. When I re-connected the pipe, I could tell the join wasn't strong and that it would split again soon. Because of this I put some epoxy resin around the joint and it has been ok since. I can only assume that there are many joints in the wash pipe so good hunting.

Personally I would suggest securing the easy-to-access rear washer pipe points is generally a bad idea. I would much rather have an easy-to-access pipe joint split apart, rather than having the trace the pipe further..... and take more bits off the car off, etc.
