At long last, my SM finally exists!

Having had no luck finding anything out from the broker (and a letter this week that asks me to pay the balance of the car's value by Jan 3rd to avoid the VAT increase), I finally lost patience and phoned Skoda UK's Customer Service department. They rang me back about 10 minutes ago to give me the order number (that the broker repeatedly refused to give me) and some good news. My Yeti is already at Emden, awaiting a ship to the UK!

I still doubt I'll receive it before Xmas, thanks to the weather, but at least it exists and it should soon be here!!

Hope it goes well for you. Most brokers, or at least most of the ones referred to here, pass you on to their specified dealer who thereafter take over all further proceedings, but it sounds as though you're still dealing with the broker instead. Dare we ask, purely out of interest, who they are? I'm also a little perplexed that you've been asked for the splosh up front. I sincerely thought (and certainly in my own case) that after paying the dipper you could pay the balance shortly prior to collection (or even on the day by debit card).....and still pay 17.5 % VAT rather than 20%.

57A Gr8! - can you expedite mine please?

The broker I used is reluctant to give me the order number, but told me which dealer was supplying the Yeti and so I used to phone them directly for updates. The Fleet Sales Manager has now left and the dealership refuses to deal with me, even though I'm paying the bill!

The letter I referred to arrived on Tuesday and offered two options. Since it now looks as though I won't get the car until January, I'll be liable for the extra 2.5% VAT (it was made clear by both the broker and Skoda UK that since I'm not a retail customer, I won't be getting the £150 compensation payment for a delivery period of more than 18 weeks and I'm also not covered by Skoda's offer of not passing on the VAT increase). The only thing the broker could offer was to invoice me for the current price before the VAT increase in early January. This effectively means that I'll be handing over £17,500 or so before I've even seen the car.......

At least it now exists, so I'm a LOT happier than I was 24 hours ago!

PS Merlinman - having waited nearly 5 months for mine already, I really wish I could do something to help!

That's not a good position to be in, I feel for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the car is A1 when it arrives and you're not having to argue the toss over anything with the dealer who has already pocketed youy money. Guess it shows why sometimes going the broker route is not always best (not that I blame you, probably have done the same myself if I'd been without a PX)

If, for arguments sake, you'd dealt with, say, Drive the Deal (with whom I've no connection) they would, I understand, have passed you to their dealer straight after initial introduction and all your correspondence would have been with the dealer. I do however gather that the dealer you might have dealt with would have classified your purchase as a 'corporate', or 'non retail' sale, which I guess tallies with what you're currently being told......and this is, I suppose, reflected in the very competetive pricing. Is it, for you, a question of balancing up whether it's worth handing over the money without seeing the car....or more to the point, risking the dealer ceasing to trade in the interim period........against saving the 2.5%? If it was a very short period then so be it, but any length of time would be nerve wracking, I think. When I asked Skoda what would happen to my deposit if a dealer went broke the answer was.....(i) Pay it by Credit Card, and (ii) Beyond that every case is dealt with on it's own merits regards Skoda fulfilling the deal and bearing the lost deposit.....so it could be a question of - 'don't hold your breath' if it did go broke.

Post deleted....my mistake....misread the above.

Latest news - it's at Grimsby!!

Realistically, I know there's no way I'll get it before the New Year (in other words, the VAT rise) because of the forecast bad weather. Still, at least it's a step closer........

PS The broker still hasn't even told me that it's been built. The latest email I received (yesterday) just said "Nothing's changed - expect delivery in January. We'll tell you more when we know something."

They'll probably pay for it this side of New Year, and then charge you after the VAT change. Grrrrr

Hi 57A - My delivery's on the cusp of 2010/2011 too. Dunno when you ordered yours, but I have it in B&W from my dealer that if the car was ordered before Sept 30th, the new VAT rate won't be charged. Not sure whether thats just theirs, or SUK policy though.

It's almost here!

The car will be ready for collection next Thursday (Jan 30th), so I'll avoid the VAT increase after all. Snow allowing, it'll be with me around a week under 5 months from order.

Can't wait!
