CD Autochanger

Featured Replies

Just adding options to a vRS Octavia on a internet dealer site. They are saying cd autochanger is a £275 option.Would I be correct in saying that it is standard equipment?

They used to be ,but now you can put a sd card into the slot so why would you need one,

Shoul've specced car with my children they woul've spotted that

Standard equipment is now the Bolero anyway isn't it, which has a built-in 6 CD autochanger, so not sure what that site is trying to pull on you.

It's standard on the Bolero, but if you've ordered the Columbus it will be extra as that only has a single CD...

CD changer has to be the biggest waste of money option going!

Not only is it fiercely expensive, it's totally redundant and takes up some useful space in the boot.

£15 buys a 16GB SDHC cards that will hold 100 times the amount of music.

Couldn't agree more.

I have the Bolero with in-built 6 CD changer. Put 6 CDs in to see how it works then discovered the SD card. Never played the CD's in 2 months of ownership.

In-car CD players will go the way of cassettes and 8 Track.

The MDI is also a total waste of money unless you already have an ipod with all your music on it. At £155 plus £25 for the lead I just don't see the point when you can slot up to 32Gb SD card in the Bolero and not fill your glovebox with cables. It happened to be fitted to the car I bought - wouldn't dream of paying for it as a specified extra.

Used my CD changer for the first time today. Bought a CD from a charity shop and thought I'd try it. My SD card is now full and it would take some effort to edit it.

My old Passat had a cassette player as standard and I never used it. I'd ordered a single CD player which served me well.

I would have to disagree. I have the 6 disc changer and the SD slot in my TSi as standard fit and its great.

I take it that you do know that the 6 disc changer plays MP3 discs.

Blank discs are about 10p each.

So you can get 10-12 albums per disc and also have the SD card as well.

I don't think we have the same system, my CD changer is boot mounted and only plays audio cds, I tried MP3 CDs and it didn't work. Maybe it's because I have a columbus head unit, not bolero.

My car is a pre-fl Octavia 2.

But still compared to a 32GB SDHC card, the changer is pointless. It takes up space, is inconvenient to load and is less robust. I honestly can't see why they fit it alongside the Bolero/Columbus.

The boot mounted CD changer cannot read MP3 CD's.

The inbuilt Bolero changer can read them but what's the point of burning puny little CDs - 6 CDs hold 4GB - you can get 8x that on a single SD card and not have all the mechanical gubbins to go with it. I think the CD changer in the Bolero is a total waste of space! But I have the MDI with an 80GB HDD connected so the SD reader is redundant too! B)
