Its arrrived... :-) Sat Nav Version - 6.1

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I picked up our ne Superb Est. 170CR Elegance - Amethyst & Ivory

Very nice indeed - I've not had a chance to look at it properly yet - its barely 3 hours & over 2 of those were swiming with kids.

But the only thing I want to ask now is - how can I make sure that I get the latest version of the Sat Nav?

I've been given the version 6.1 and although I asked the day before if I was getting the latest version (already indicated version 7 something) - I was told I have been given the latest version & its been loaded on

If the dealer sticks to his guns how do I make sure I get the new version???

No doubt tomorrow I'll have a photo to post - after haveing cleaned the Ivory foot mats... bugger I thought I was getting black ones - my mistake I didn't realise they also did Ivory.

Good news is I've been happy with dealer (so far) and the car does go nicely. Brakes bite very quickly but have a good feel - only took a few dabs to get used to it.

No doubt I'll have lots more questions soon especially with Columbus & Sat Nav.

Thanks from a happy & impressed first time Skoda owner

If its brand new then the dealer should GIVE you a copy of the V7 disc...unfortunately most of them don't even know its out yet!!!

I stand by what I wrote on another thread about this. It's not acceptable that dealers are still giving out v6.1 on new cars delivered now when other dealers are giving out v.7. Refer them to this forum if they want the evidence. They could easily p.m. those with v.7 and check with that persons supplying dealer to prove what they are being told.

Unless you were offered a discount for taking a redundant version then demand the latest version!

Hi,

Thanks for the comments, I'll wait to see what comments the dealer comes back with & will just have to badger him a little more.

Just to confirm, yes the car is brand new & there was NO discount offered for the "old" version.... as it seems that they are not aware of version 7. No doubt they will get a few more complaints, as their yard was full of new cars. Its been a busy week for them.

I didn't realise Dealers would actually take note of a Forum like this - is this actually "monitored/controlled/supported"by Skoda?

I'll probably get them to fit the dog guard / luggage restraint next weekend as it didn't arrive with the car, so RS3100, if you read this we'll have to wait at least another week until we know if it'll be different to yours. I'm not in a rush as we don't have a dog its purely for holidays & the odd full load.

& Al if you read this.... The space saver spare tyre is in fact a 205, ie. the same as yours, I'm a much happer bunny now as I really didn't expect it. Its just called a space saver as they can't fit a full size spare for the Elegance in the well.

So far I'm pretty impressed... it even came with the chrome door inserts which are meant to be an extra, nice touch, I wanted them but was too tight to fork out for them.

Interested in your comment that the brakes bite very quickly. I've done 17k and the brakes still bite at low speed. Have never got used to it and surprises me every time! Not really a drama but my other cars have never had this issue. Everything else excellent!!

Welcome to the Superb clan.

2k miles and I'm still finding the initial bite of the brakes a bit fierce now & again, but I am adjusting to it.

I'm curious about the chrome door inserts, never heard of them?

Enjoy

They don't and it isn't an official Skoda endorsed site. They are aware of Briskoda but don't control it. :)

Nimble Trevor, Tankdave,

Brakes - as I rolled of the forecourt I braked gently & before I knew it I was taking a bite out of the steering wheel... :giggle:

But the car I normally drive (company car) is a Golf Bluemotion (really cheap on tax  ) so by the time I'd driven the 10 miles or so I found the required touch to be similar - just a little more gentle - but I'm guessing I'm comparing a car with 10 miles on the clock to one with 50k. there is going to have to be more play now... isn't there?

As this is more the wifes' car I'll be interested to see how she gets on. The Vectra before had Vauxhalls' usual miles of pedal travel before biting, so I think it might just catch her out  just hope noone ploughs into the back! :S

However I'm sure top notch Marques would call them "very reassuring brakes" & it all adds to the image. So I'm not being negative about it in any way.

As for the Chrome door inserts - probably badly described. I've just looked in the brochure they are offically a retailer supplied accessory called "Chrome effect door sill covers" which cost £75. I'm assuming maybe the factory put them on all Elegance vehicles?? I feel it gives no benefit (I normally drive with the doors shut) but admittedly it does look nicer.

In case the description is still not obvious it's the bit of door sill you step over when getting in and out. Hope that helps.

Hedge,

Thanks, I guess I'll have to try and at least direct them to the forum & the fact that other owners have the new version. It keeps me informed & if I get a proper copy installed then the time spent here will have proved its worth. I think it probably has already.

And now for a question.... with Columbus where do you enter the postcode (albeit only a part postcode for now?) The brief play I've had always wants me to enter the country, town/city and road... I can't see a postcode option - is it called something "odd"?

Good news, got the wife's Nokia N8 series to hook up straight away, down loaded phone book & all seems in order. Not tried getting out of the car with it on, but judging by other threads due to the way it works it can't do this (not a problem for us at the moment). Yet to try my Blackberry 8250 with it, but nervous it will clash! Can you connect multiple phones to it & which ever phone is used first will make the connection? Or should I just steer clear of this potential minefield for now....

So far overall.... i'm impressed ;)

When you navigate to a "New Dest", choose "Address" and you should see "City/P.Cd"

Select this and type the first 5 characters of the post code.

Incidentally, I'm in the same boat as you with my new company car. It was delivered last Monday with v6.1 of the maps, so will be contacting them on Monday to see what they say before passing it on to the leasing company to sort out :)

What's the quickest way of finding what version maps you have if there is no CD included?

Check and see if you can put a full postcode in (instructions already detailed on another thread on this forum) if you can: V7, if not V6.1 or earlier.

Mark.

I wasn't sure if when it booted up it showed you momentarily what version it was running on?

As I do not have my car yet (being delivered next Wednesday :giggle: ) and I have never personally used a Columbus yet, I wanted the quickest way of being 100% sure of what version is installed, so it can be rectified (if need be) before I accept the car.

At the risk of stating the obvious, ask the dealer. At the pdi they install the software onto the Columbus. If yours is coming next week you should phone them now and ask what they've ordered. They should have ordered the disc with the Columbus, so you should get v7. Seems a bit hit and miss at the moment. Put it this way; I'll be asking prior to mine being delivered, I expect V7 installed and a V7 backup disc. Anything less won't be acceptable.

BTW, please post pics when you get it. Mine is aqua blue also and I haven't seen many pics.

Trouble is mine is coming through a 3rd party broker who so far have been less than 'kin useless! and this is their 3rd delivery attempt! If I had been in contact with the supplying dealer then I would not still be waiting.

The car was built at the end of October and still not here :wall: this is why I want to make sure everything is sorted before I fully accept the car, I will certainly not accept V6.1 on a brand new car.

You will find the Ivopry mats getting dirty very quickly, I ordered my car with black mats but you can always buy after market mats and lay them over the original ones for protection.

Yep it really doen't take long... two little nippers in the back have now got room to jump about & spead the dirt...! Maybe they're as excited as daddy :D

I'll probably get some cheaper black mats (for the winter) but as we took out the Lifeshine cover/protection if the Ivory ones do get trashed then I guess I call in the cleaning experts.

No doubt I'll find out one day if the cover/protection was worth paying for.

Three weeks on and my dealer still can't get hold of a V7 disc, the cars that do come are with the back order discs which are version 6.1 and he says some cars still coming with no disc and having to be sent out as they arrived.

Sat Nav does what I want so will wait until my wifes Octy arrives and use that disc to put V7 on mine.

The only reason cars will come with no disc is the dealer hasn't bothered ordering one. This Columbus sat nav is a £1500 system to buy (which we pay for as part of the elegance spec) It's not good enough to give no disc or an out of date disc. My last Superb had the latest disc in the glovebox supplied from the dealer on delivery and already installed. It's your choice of course if you want to accept what you've been given.

Recently had 2 cars delivered my wifes Octavia and my Superb estate and we got a V7 disc in them both, the wifes one was abit late arriving but the dealer had them both by the time they delivered my car

Thanks for that. Good evidence for those who've been given redundant 6.1 discs and want their dealers to give them V7.

Mark.

Just installed V7 on mine, was an easy job, it asks you if you want to keep your destinations and it will give a warning if you press the eject before its completley copied to the HDD, the full postcode will then enter just like the old version.

If you have any worries about doing this upgrade yourself, don't as it appears to be pretty fool proof, it takes about half hour to install.

PS. I can't tell you where I got the disc because I will have to shoot you after telling. B)

This is all well and good if dealers are being sent discs but how do they supply what they haven't got?

The copy of the order for my car which was given to me on collection had against it from Skoda's ordering system for the car - Disc on back order

So isn't it reasnoable of them to load a version rather than nothing at all?

This was the case for another Superb and an Octavia, I was the nly one out of the three to have a disc once it had been used on the other cars.

Skoda UK themselves admit there is a backlog of discs and couldn't explain to me why so perhaps if there is a dealer here, they could comment?

I would agree, yes.

My intention by putting the comments on that I have is that Superb owners/ intending owners are aware of what is available (V7) and they get that from their dealer. If the discs are on back order we'll all have to wait.

If mine comes with v6.1 installed I won't be concerned so long as the dealer gives an assurance to order me a v7 disc asap.
