i was just wondering if its ok for me to take my vrs to the skoda garage tommorow (3 miles), driving slowly....with 2 out of 3 13mm bolts in the passenger side suspension turret.

While pulling really hard on the strut as advised in the last thread, one of them pinged out of the hole and fell into the engine bay...i have spent the last hour and a half trying to get it out with about 10sticks covered in selotape and a magnet...none of them worked.

this day has sucked.

sooo...can i drive it (instead of going to work) in the morning? and get a new bolt at the dealer.

Im going to cry now.

It'll be OK yeah, you need to purchase one of those magnetised telescopic aerial style tools. I got one for Xmas from a mate, now residing in my toolbox for the very next (gaurenteed) time I do exactly the same thing.

Oh, and the easiest way to retrive something I have found it undo all the torx bolts around the front of the car holding the cover on, detach the cover at the front bit, which has slots in it, and pull it down. You can then reach inside and grab the offending item, and bend the cover back, so the slots go back in the holes in the spoiler and the torx bolts can be re-done up.

Edit: I'll send you a spare bolt if you want? :P

this happened to me when I was doing this and boy did I curse!!! Got it out in the end (lucky it didn't fall to far) was going to suggest what you've already tried as it worked for me.

Have another go in the morning if your have time, only trouble (possibly) with moving the car would be if the bolt got caught in a moving part of the engine.

Well at least you didn't manage to shear the turret bolt off like I managed to do when tightening mine up on the AX whilst installing the strut brace. Flamin'clown.

I'm glad i'm not the only one then!

Its a weird thing, i love cars, love reading about them and watching all kinds of mechanical documentaries on tv (american chopper is ace and iv never even ridden a motorbike) and yet when i get the tool kit out my brain stops working.

Tomorrow i will check the bolt is nowhere near any moving parts (thanks for that tip  ) and take it to skoda where i can pay people to do things i can never understand with my car! I know lots of people on this forum will think im stupid paying someone to fit a strut brace but after tonight its going to be worth every penny.

I dropped an allen key into my engine the other day - serves me right for leaving my tools on top of the engine cover. I had to take off the cover and fish it out using a long magnetised screwdriver and a torch.

Doh!!
